Job summary

World Class Defence Organisation is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer on an initial 12-month contract, requiring strong Creo 3D design experience and a Defence/Aerospace background. The role focuses on design, verification and support across prime and variant products within a multidisciplinary team.

The position is based in Stevenage with hybrid/remote arrangements, typically onsite four days a week and one day remote, and a potential compressed four-day week.

Qualifications

• Experience using Creo 3D design tool.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and tolerance studies.
• Experience with environmental testing and mass property calculations.
• Material selection, FMEA and design for manufacture/assembly.
• Familiar with Defence Standards and product lifecycles.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical design and proving activities within a larger team for prime/variant products.
• Support manufacturing and resolve manufacturing problems and defects.
• Support functional and environmental testing and trials.
• Liaise with suppliers to resolve technical queries.
• Plan and report daily activities to meet milestones.
• Clarify and generate requirements, challenging extraneous requirements to reduce lead time and complexity.

World Class Defence Organisation is currently looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer subcontractors on an initial 12 month contract.

This role would suit a Mechanical Design Engineer who comes from a strong Defence or Aerospace background has strong Creo / PRO-E skills.

Rate: £50.00 per hour

Working Arrangements

Hybrid / Remote working: 4 days a week likely onsite (likely could be lower on a week by week basis; depending on work). 1 day remote. (flexible on start and finish time). A compressed 4 day week (Monday to Thursday) a possibility.

Contract: 37 Hours per week

Overtime: Hours worked over 37 hours per week will be calculated at ‘time and a quarter’

Duration: 12 Months (initially and then ongoing and long-term thereafter)

IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella)

Responsibilities

• Carry out Mechanical Design and proving activities as part of a wider team for prime and variant products, of both piece parts and assemblies.
• Support/liaise with manufacturing, resolving manufacturing problems & defects.
• Support to functional & environmental testing and trials.
• Liaise with suppliers/purchasing to resolve any technical queries that may arise.
• Planning and reporting on own day-to-day activities to meet project milestones.
• Gain clarification of and help to generate requirements, including challenging of extraneous requirements to reduce lead time, UPC and design complexity
