Job summary

Pertemps Bond in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering team. You will develop bespoke engineering solutions, improve existing products and support projects through design, build and delivery.

This hands-on role combines advanced 3D CAD design, mechanical engineering and production support. You will collaborate with customers, suppliers and internal teams to translate requirements into practical, high-quality solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience as an Applications Engineer or Mechanical Design Engineer.
• Advanced 3D CAD skills, Siemens NX.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, materials and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with fabricated steel, aluminium and plastic components.
• Ability to interpret technical requirements and develop manufacturable solutions.
• Strong communication and project management skills.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with moulded composites, fluid systems or electrical integration would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Manage bespoke engineering projects and customer-specific design modifications from initial brief through to final delivery.
• Carry out integration studies and develop practical solutions to complex engineering challenges.
• Produce and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, assembly drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Manage project BOMs, budgets and technical requirements.
• Provide hands‑on technical support to Production and Sales, resolving design and assembly issues.
• Liaise with customers, component suppliers and regulatory bodies to ensure designs meet required specifications and certification standards.
• Support product builds, testing, validation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve product performance, design efficiency and manufacturing processes.

Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering business in Wallingford, where you will play a key role in developing bespoke engineering solutions, improving existing products and supporting projects through design, build and delivery.

This is a varied, hands-on role combining advanced 3D CAD design, mechanical engineering, project management and production support. You will work closely with customers, suppliers and internal Commercial and Production teams to turn technical requirements into practical, high-quality engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage bespoke engineering projects and customer-specific design modifications from initial brief through to final delivery.
• Carry out integration studies and develop practical solutions to complex engineering challenges.
• Produce and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, assembly drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Manage project Bills of Materials (BOMs), budgets and technical requirements.

About You

You will be an experienced engineer with strong mechanical knowledge, excellent problem‑solving skills and the confidence to take ownership of technical projects.

Ideally, you will have:

• At least five years' experience as an Applications Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer or in a similar engineering role.
• Advanced 3D CAD skills, ideally Siemens NX, with experience developing complex components, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, materials and manufacturing processes.
• Experience working with fabricated steel, aluminium and plastic components.
• The ability to interpret technical requirements and develop innovative, manufacturable solutions.
• Strong communication and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
• A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous.

Experience with moulded composite materials, fluid systems or electrical integration would be beneficial.
