Job summary

Pertemps Reading is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for a full-time role in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. You will manage bespoke projects from brief to delivery, create advanced 3D CAD models (Siemens NX) and support production with manufacturing drawings and BOM management.

The role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration with customers, suppliers and internal teams to deliver high-quality engineered solutions.

Qualifications

• At least five years' experience in a similar engineering role.
• Strong 3D CAD skills (Siemens NX) with experience in complex components and manufacturing drawings.
• Solid knowledge of mechanical systems, materials and manufacturing processes.
• Experience working with fabricated steel, aluminium and plastic components.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional project management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage bespoke engineering projects and customer-specific design modifications from initial brief through to final delivery.
• Carry out integration studies and develop practical solutions to complex engineering challenges.
• Produce and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, assembly drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Manage project Bills of Materials (BOMs), budgets and technical requirements.
• Provide hands-on technical support to Production and Sales, resolving design and assembly issues.
• Liaise with customers, component suppliers and regulatory bodies to ensure designs meet required specifications and certification standards.
• Support product builds, testing, validation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve product performance, design efficiency and manufacturing processes.
