Job summary

Magenta Recruitment Ltd is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join a Kent-based building services consultancy. You will contribute to the design and delivery of mechanical systems across a diverse portfolio of projects, taking ownership of your own design packages.

The role spans commercial, industrial, residential and leisure sectors, with site visits, meetings, and collaboration with clients and contractors.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years experience in mechanical building services design.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
• Proficiency in design software and familiarity with UK building regulations and sustainability frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, and public health systems.
• Produce detailed designs, calculations and specifications for projects.
• Use AutoCAD to develop coordinated mechanical layouts and models.

Role Overview

My client is looking for an Intermediate or Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join their established growing building services consultancy in Kent.

You will contribute to the design and delivery of mechanical systems across a diverse portfolio of projects.

The practice undertakes work both locally and throughout the UK, spanning commercial, industrial, residential and leisure projects. You’ll take ownership of your own design packages and play a key role in delivering high‑quality, efficient, and bespoke building services solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Mechanical Design & Engineering
• Produce detailed designs, calculations, and specifications for HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, and public health systems.
• Use industry‑standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, IES) to develop coordinated mechanical layouts and models.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and best practices (CIBSE, Building Regulations, etc.).
• Project Delivery
• Manage your own work packages across a variety of sectors, ensuring outputs meet quality, cost, and programme requirements.
• Independently deliver smaller projects and contribute effectively to larger schemes.
• Attend site visits, surveys, design team meetings.
• Collaboration & Communication
• Work closely with colleagues, design teams, clients and contractors to deliver fully integrated building services solutions.
• Prepare and present technical reports, design documentation, and client‑facing materials.
• Participate in design team meetings and contribute to technical discussions and problem‑solving.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5–10 years’ experience in mechanical building services design.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of HVAC principles, building physics, and mechanical systems integration.
• Proficiency in relevant design software (AutoCAD essential; Revit/IES desirable).
• Familiarity with UK building regulations, CIBSE guidance, and sustainability frameworks.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience delivering projects from concept through to construction.

Desirable Attributes

• Working toward professional registration (IEng or CEng) with CIBSE or the IMechE.
• Experience with BIM workflows.
• Knowledge of low‑carbon technologies and energy modelling.
• Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise tasks across multiple projects and clients.
