We have an exciting new opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer interested in decarbonisation projects to join our Carbon Shift business unit.

About Carbon Shift

Our Carbon Shift consulting business focuses on delivering actionable climate strategies and net zero plans, supported by capabilities in heat decarbonisation, regeneration, Facilities Management, project delivery, EVs, smart buildings, and renewables. We are expanding our services to address broader climate adaptation and resilience challenges.

Key Activities

• Support the development of renewable heat and thermal energy efficiency projects, focusing on engineering and design of commercial heat pump applications, HVAC system improvements, and controls.
• Prepare mechanical design solutions for retrofit decarbonisation projects, new-build energy centres, and heat networks, from RIBA 1 to RIBA 4 stages.
• Create design models using AutoCAD, REVIT, Navisworks, and thermal simulation models with IES VE, Hysopt, EnergyPRO.
• Perform calculations and analyses to validate models and confirm system performance.
• Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, including electrical, structural, architectural, and other specialists.
• Research emerging technologies and assess their applicability.
• Contribute to technical appraisals, specifications, tender documents, and customer reports.
• Conduct Designer Risk Assessments and ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
• Support during construction and commissioning phases.
• Maintain an advanced understanding of building services (mechanical) design and relevant standards, including health and safety regulations.
• Possess knowledge of heat pumps, refrigeration, and environmental factors affecting mechanical design.
