Serco Limited in Derbyshire seeks a Workshop Mechanic to inspect, service, and repair a range of commercial vehicles within our fleet maintenance facilities. You will diagnose faults, carry out timely repairs, and ensure vehicles meet DVSA roadworthiness standards.

This hands-on role requires City and Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, driving licence, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Qualifications

• City and Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Experience maintaining commercial vehicles or large fleets.
• DVSA guidelines knowledge and roadworthiness standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out inspections, servicing, and repairs across a range of commercial vehicles.
• Diagnose faults and deliver efficient, high-quality repairs.
• Work with the Workshop Supervisor to schedule safety inspections at least six months in advance, including statutory obligations.
• Perform brake testing and ensure DVSA compliance.
• Conduct road tests following repairs to confirm safety and roadworthiness.
• Maintain a clean, organized workshop environment and accurate service records.

Salary: £22.22 per hour (£46,215 per annum) plus excellent benefits
Schedule: 40-hour working week, Monday to Friday, with flexible working hours available

Working in a well-equipped workshop environment, you'll be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and inspection of Serco commercial vehicles within our fleet maintenance facilities. All work will be carried out in line with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.

The vehicles you maintain support important services that communities rely on, giving your work real purpose and helping to create a positive impact on communities. You'll play a vital role in keeping our fleet compliant and reliable. This is a hands on position where your technical expertise will be used to carry out thorough inspections, diagnose and repair faults, and ensure vehicles fully meet standards.

What you'll do as a Workshop Mechanic

• Carry out inspections, servicing, and repairs across a range of commercial vehicles
• Diagnose faults and deliver efficient, high-quality repairs

Does this sound like you?

• Full industry-recognised qualifications, such as City and Guilds or National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
• Experience maintaining commercial vehicles or large vehicle fleets
• A valid Category C Driving Licence, or willingness to obtain one
• Experience working with specialist hydraulic systems
