Job summary

Serco Limited is seeking a Workshop Mechanic in Cardiff to repair, maintain and inspect a fleet of commercial vehicles in our maintenance facilities. The role focuses on ensuring DVSA roadworthiness standards and safe operation through inspections, fault identification and timely repairs.

You will carry out tests, keep accurate documentation, and plan safety inspections in consultation with supervision, with occasional hours outside normal shifts as required.

Qualifications

  • Full industry recognised qualifications (City and Guilds / NVQ Level Three in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair).
  • Experience of maintaining large fleets.
  • Cat C Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance inspections and repairs on all vehicles presented.
  • Identify vehicle faults and repair as necessary.
  • Ensure safety inspections are planned in advance, including statutory obligations.
  • Ensure brake tests are completed as required.
  • Conduct vehicle test drives after repairs to verify roadworthiness.
  • Keep the workshop clean and organised to maintain workplace safety.
  • Complete inspection and repair documentation after work is finished.
  • Work outside normal hours when operationally required.

Job description

As a Workshop Mechanic in our team, you'll repair, maintain, and inspect all Serco commercial vehicles within our fleet maintenance facilities, in accordance with the Driver Vehicle and Standards Agency (DVSA) Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness .

You’ll play a key part in keeping our fleet safe and reliable. This is a hands on role where you’ll use your expertise to carry out inspections, identify and repair faults, and ensure all vehicles meet DVSA standards.

What you'll do as a Workshop Mechanic

You’ll be entrusted to:

  • Perform maintenance inspections and repairs on all vehicles presented.
  • Identify vehicle faults and repair as necessary.
  • In consultation with the Workshop Supervisor, ensure all safety inspections are planned at least six months in advance, including all vehicle statutory obligations.
  • Ensure all brake tests are completed as required.
  • Conduct vehicle test drives after repairs have been completed to verify the vehicle is roadworthy.
  • Ensure the workshop is kept clean and well organised to ensure workplace safety.
  • Complete all inspection and repair documentation, either manually or electronically, after any work has been completed on the vehicle.
  • Work outside of normal working hours when operationally required.
