Job overview

We are excited to launch an expansion in our team leadership within our Theatre service at the Royal London Hospital. We are seeking experienced practitioners to join a unique opportunity to lead one of our 21 elective and emergency theatres at one of the largest trauma centres in London.

We are seeking highly motivated applicants who can demonstrate examples of well-developed leadership, people management, financial management, organisational skills and strategic planning. In your supporting statement, please provide us some examples of your experience of delivering these.

Our state-of-the-art theatres service elective and emergency specialties and complex procedures, including hepatobiliary, complex ENT, trauma & orthopaedics, reconstructive orthopaedics, neurosurgery, complex vascular surgery, interventional radiology, maxillofacial surgery, robotic procedures, renal transplants, plastic reconstructive surgery, urology and ophthalmic surgery. We also offer paediatric expertise to the major trauma service for Southeast England.

If you are a Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner with NMC or HCPC registration, with experience in a complex theatre environment and are looking to become a leader within our dynamic multidisciplinary team, we would welcome an application from you.

Main duties of the job

This role provides key strategic oversight for Theatres and Recovery at The Royal London Hospital. The post holder provides innovative clinical and professional leadership to nursing at all levels within the service group, ensuring nursing care is delivered to a high standard and the nursing resource is managed effectively. This will be achieved by the post holder supporting theatres band 7 team, in running the directorate theatres, recovery and the PDN’s. The post holder will be required to work collaboratively with the other Matrons within both Peri-operative medicine and the wider division and be supportive of nursing leads in these areas in their delivery of safe and compassionate care. The post holder is responsible for maintaining the standards as identified by the Care Quality Commission and other regulatory bodies are maintained supporting quality improvement projects with the ward sister/charge nurse and support the multidisciplinary team to take forward the directorates quality and safety agenda. This post combines clinical expertise, leadership and educational/research skills with managerial and professional responsibilities.
