Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting a Special Needs Maths Teacher for a SEMH school in Surrey. You will deliver engaging Maths lessons, adapting the curriculum to support pupils with SEMH and additional needs, while working with assistants and staff to foster a structured learning environment. A strong DBS and QTS/QTLS are preferred, with opportunities for CPD and career progression.

Qualifications

  • QTS / QTLS or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience delivering Maths to pupils with SEND, SEMH or PRU settings is desirable.
  • Ability to differentiate lessons to meet varying academic levels and needs.
  • Strong classroom management and safeguarding awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging Maths lessons and adapt the curriculum to meet individual learning needs.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants and pastoral staff to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Differentiate instruction for pupils at different levels and manage behaviour effectively.

TeacherActive is proud to be recruiting for a Special Needs Maths Teacher to join a specialist SEMH school based in Surrey.

The school supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, with pupils potentially presenting additional needs including Autism, ADHD, anxiety, trauma and challenging behaviour.

As the Maths Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and accessible Maths lessons, adapting the curriculum to meet a range of individual needs and abilities. You will work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff and other professionals to create a structured, supportive and positive learning environment.

The successful Maths Teacher will ideally have:
  • QTS / QTLS or a relevant recognised teaching qualification
  • Strong knowledge and experience of teaching Maths
  • Experience working within SEND, SEMH, Alternative Provision or PRU settings is highly desirable
  • Strong behaviour and classroom management skills
  • The ability to differentiate lessons for pupils working at different academic levels
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may have experienced barriers to education
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and SEND
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
