Job summary

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is seeking an experienced registered midwife to join as a Maternity Regulation Liaison. You will connect regulatory intelligence with practice, supporting the midwifery strategy and public protection across the UK.

You will lead the development of regulatory learning, triangulating fitness to practise, adjudications, education quality, research and stakeholder feedback to drive improvements in education, practice, guidance and policy.

Qualifications

• Must be a registered midwife with current UK practice knowledge.
• Experience in regulation, safeguarding and risk assessment.
• Ability to analyse large volumes of complex information and identify meaningful patterns.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including concise reporting.
• Experience advising within a regulatory/public health context is valuable.
• Experience engaging stakeholders across the UK.
• Ability to translate regulatory intelligence into improvements in education, practice, guidance and policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, balanced, evidence-informed advice on midwifery practice, standards, risk and public protection.
• Triangulate midwifery and neonatal information across Professional Practice and Professional Regulation.
• Identify themes and safeguarding or public-protection concerns and advise on appropriate action.
• Translate regulatory intelligence into improvements in education, practice, guidance and policy.
• Contribute specialist expertise to development and review of regulatory tools, standards and communications.
• Support consultation and engagement to reflect perspectives of registrants, women, families and system partners.
• Build constructive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the four UK countries.
• Work with research and professionals to strengthen evidence informing midwifery and perinatal regulation.
