Job summary

Cityscape Recruitment is seeking a Materials Buyer for a well-established brickwork contractor in Chigwell/Essex. You will procure brickwork and related construction materials for multiple live projects, ensuring on-time delivery and competitive pricing.

You will raise and manage purchase orders, coordinate deliveries with site teams, and build strong supplier relationships while monitoring costs and identifying value opportunities.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Materials Buyer, Construction Buyer or Assistant Buyer
• Strong background in brickwork, masonry or specialist subcontracting
• Good knowledge of bricks, blocks, mortar and associated construction materials
• Experience working within the construction industry
• Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
• Good commercial awareness and cost control knowledge
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

Responsibilities

• Procuring brickwork and associated construction materials for multiple live projects
• Obtaining competitive quotations and negotiating with suppliers
• Raising and managing purchase orders
• Coordinating deliveries to meet project programmes and site requirements
• Building and maintaining relationships with brick, block and construction material suppliers
• Monitoring material costs and identifying value engineering opportunities
• Working closely with commercial, operational and site teams
• Managing stock levels and lead times to avoid programme delays
• Resolving supply chain issues and sourcing alternative materials when necessary
• Maintaining accurate procurement records and reporting information
