TimeOutdoors exists to help more people get active outdoors.
For more than 20 years we've connected people with events, challenges, charity places and adventures.Nobody here is marketing widgets. You'll be marketing the things people daydream about - a first 10K, a challenge to take on with friends, a charity place in the Great North Run or an adventure further afield.
Alongside our community, we work with charities, event organisers and adventure providers - including some of the biggest and most recognisable brands in the sector - helping them reach the right people and turn interest into participation.
There is already a lot happening at TimeOutdoors. We have the platform, the audience, the partners and stories of people getting outside and doing something that matters to them. And we've just launched a service that removes the upfront cost for advertisers to work with us so we're looking to scale up fast.
We're a small, close-knit team based in Yorkshire, punching well above our weight and this is a newly created role at the heart of that growth.
The role
We're looking for our Marketing Manager. You won't be starting from scratch: there's a clear strategy, a 20-year-old brand, thousands of events and a business that's scaling fast. But neither will you be handed a finished plan and asked to simply run it. After getting to know the business, you'll work closely with the Founder to refine and develop that strategy - and you'll own turning it into measurable results: sign-ups, conversion and advertiser outcomes.
You'll sit at the intersection of content, community and conversion, with a single clear mandate: turn visitors into sign-ups and our advertisers into long-term commercial partners.SEO is not the heart of this role as organic strategy sits with the Founder.
You'll be working with AI, not against it. We already use AI across the business - our listings tool drafts content at scale, and our AI marketing assistant handles analysis and first drafts. We want a Marketing Manager who's already using AI tools in their own work - to draft faster, test more ideas, interrogate data, produce more - and who knows exactly where human judgement still matters. If you're not fully there yet but are genuinely curious and quick to adopt, that works too. What doesn't work is reluctance.
Storytelling is also central to the role. We believe real people doing real things outdoors are one of our strongest marketing assets. But great content alone is not enough - you'll be judged on outcomes: sign-ups, conversion rate and advertiser results, not on activity or output volume.
You'll have the freedom to test ideas and challenge how we currently do things. In a small business, what you put into the role has a very visible impact on what comes out of it.
What success looks like
What you'll do
We know the skills this role needs - driving sign-ups through content, community and campaign work - exist well beyond commercial marketing. Charity events, community and fundraising professionals do this every day: growing participant numbers, motivating supporters to take part, and proving the value of an activity to a partner. If that's your background, we want to hear from you.
You don't need to have worked in the outdoor sector, and you don't need to have followed one particular career path. You might come from commercial marketing, digital, events, charity fundraising, participation, membership or another environment where you've been responsible for turning interest into measurable action. The outdoor sector context is very learnable; the instinct for turning interest into action isn't.
What matters is that you know what good marketing looks like and can demonstrate the difference your work has made - achievements, not simply campaigns you've worked on. That might include increasing registrations or participation, improving conversion rates, growing revenue, building an audience or community, improving customer journeys, launching new propositions or improving return on marketing investment.
You'll come in with ideas, but be equally comfortable listening, understanding what already exists and deciding what should happen next. And you'll need to be comfortable challenging us - we don't expect the Marketing Manager to simply agree with everything we're already doing.
Must have
How we work
TimeOutdoors is a small business, which means this role has access and influence that would be unusual in a larger organisation. You'll work directly with the Founder and be involved in conversations about the wider direction of the business, not simply marketing activity.
We're a hybrid team that values face time. The energy and creativity that comes from working together in person is central to how we operate, especially while we're growing - so you'll spend a minimum of two days a week co-working with the team in Yorkshire, with the remainder worked remotely.
Where this role can take you
This is a newly created role at a business that's scaling fast. As TimeOutdoors grows, this position is the natural route into a Head of Marketing role - owning an even bigger share of the business's growth strategy as the team and platform expand.
