Job summary

Membership Bespoke is seeking an experienced Maritime Professional to join as Technical & Policy Manager. You will apply seagoing knowledge to technical and policy projects, industry engagement and research, while developing policy positions and coordinating events.

The role blends technical insight with policy development, stakeholder engagement and project management in a shore-based setting, with hybrid working and opportunities to influence the wider maritime profession.

Qualifications

• Sea-going experience in the commercial maritime sector.
• Practical understanding of vessel operations, engineering, safety or regulation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to explain complex technical matters to diverse audiences.
• Experience preparing reports or briefing papers.

Responsibilities

• Apply operational maritime knowledge to technical and policy projects.
• Coordinate specialist committees, expert panels and industry working groups.
• Help turn practical industry experience into reports, guidance and policy positions.
• Research and monitor technical, regulatory and operational developments.
• Assess how emerging issues affect maritime professionals and the wider sector.
• Prepare meeting agendas, briefing papers and supporting documentation.
• Manage technical projects and workstreams from planning through delivery.
• Review and quality-assure technical content with subject-matter experts.
• Build relationships with members, volunteers, regulators, academics and industry representatives.
• Represent the organisation at meetings, conferences and forums.
• Contribute to seminars, workshops, training programmes and professional events.
• Draft and review reports, articles, consultation responses and briefing papers.
• Work with communications colleagues to share technical insight and thought leadership.
• Line manage and develop a junior team member.
