Job summary

Caterpillar Marine in Wimborne, Dorset is offering a 12-month Industrial Placement in Design Engineering. You will work on marine engine and genset design from 10kW to 750kW, participate in technical calculations, system schematics, and liaison with shop floor, under a supportive mentor.

Eligible candidates are penultimate-year students aiming for July 2027 start and a 2:1 honours degree expectation. The role provides a pathway to graduate opportunities with competitive salary (£26,000),

Qualifications

• Penultimate-year Mechanical/Automotive Engineering student or enrolled in an integrated master's program.
• Minimum 2:1 honours degree expectation.

Responsibilities

• Design marine engine systems and components.
• Create system schematics & layout.
• Perform technical calculations.
• Review components / sub-systems with suppliers.
• Liaise with shop floor on assembly/ manufacture.
