Job summary

GE Power Conversion in the UK is seeking a lead mechanical engineer to join the systems engineering team in Glasgow or Rugby, supporting contract manufacturing of drive, switchboard and distribution products, and driving robust design documentation.

You will coordinate with suppliers, engineering, and project managers, create 3D models in Creo and manage BoMs in Teamcenter, and be prepared to travel within the UK and internationally; UK nationals with SC clearance eligibility are required.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Significant manufacturing experience with knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with sheetmetal design, welding, coatings and electro-mechanical assembly.
  • Familiarity with DFMA and material selection.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics.
  • Strong engineering, communication and organisational skills.
  • UK national and eligibility for SC security clearance.

Responsibilities

Job Description Summary

GE applies the science and systems of power conversion to help drive the electric transformation of the world's energy infrastructure. Designing and delivering advanced motor, drive and control technologies, we serve specialized sectors such as marine, industry, energy and all related services.


We are looking for a lead mechanical engineer to work within our systems engineering organisation based in Glasgow or Rugby. You will be responsible for supporting our contract manufacturing partners during the builds of our drive, switchboard and associated distribution products. You will also be involved in the design and documentation of our equipment as part of the project team delivering new solutions.


Due to the security restrictions on this role, applications will only be accepted from UK Nationals who either hold, or are eligible for SC security clearance.


Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities



  • Support the manufacture of power electronics, switchboards and electrical distribution equipment providing rapid responses to technical queries, managing schedules and helping to resolve quality issues.

  • Act as the main technical point of contact for all mechanical engineering topics related to ongoing contract manufacturing work.

  • Work with the supplier quality engineering team to perform capability assessments on potential new suppliers.

  • Collaborate with the product and project managers to set priorities, manage cost, and develop manufacturing schedules.

  • Contribute to test plans and support routine testing and customer factory acceptance testing.

  • Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in PTC Creo and create and manage parts and BoMs in Siemens Teamcenter PLM system.

  • This role will involve significant periods of travel, both within the UK and internationally.


Essential Requirements



  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, or relevant experience in a mechanical engineering environment.

  • Significant engineering experience with good technical knowledge of:

  • manufacturing processes

  • sheetmetal design

  • welding

  • coating technologies

  • electro-mechanical assembly

  • DFMA

  • Material selection

  • A strong track record in manufacturing support, ideally gained in the industrial or electrical equipment sectors.

  • The ability to interpret electrical schematics.

  • Good engineering, communication, and organisational skills.

  • You must be a sole UK National and hold or be eligible to obtain UK security clearance to SC level.


Desired Characteristics



  • Demonstrable experience in a project lead role.

  • Proficiency in the use of PTC Creo, or similar 3D CAD software for the creation of 3D part and assembly models and 2D drawings.

  • Experience in the use of Siemens TeamCenter PLM software for BoM creation & management.

  • Previous experience of UK Naval engineering projects.
