Job description

MANUFACTURING OPERATIVE (COMPOSITES)

Oxfordshire | Contract initial 6 months (Potential to Go Permanent)

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a chance to get in early at a precision composites manufacturer that’s genuinely on the move. Backed by significant recent investment and working across some of the most demanding sectors in the industry, the business is growing fast and building out its production team to keep pace with a strong and expanding order book.

If you're hands-on, take pride in your work and want to be part of a team that does too, this is worth a read.

THE ROLE

You'll be working in the composites manufacturing area, operating filament winding equipment and taking parts through from raw preparation all the way to finished component. It's varied, practical work, no two days are exactly the same and you'll play a direct part in the quality of what goes out the door.

Day-to-day you'll be:

  • Prepping and loading mandrels onto the winding machine ready for production
  • Setting up the fibre feed and monitoring the winding process as it runs
  • Identifying and resolving issues, fibre breaks, tension problems, anything that comes up during the wind
  • Extracting cured parts from mandrels and completing post-cure finishing operations
  • Cutting to length, trimming, sanding, drilling and fitting components to specification
  • Carrying out basic quality checks and completing accurate production paperwork
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You don't need a composites background specifically, but you do need to be practical, reliable and the kind of person who pays attention to detail and takes their work seriously.

The following backgrounds tend to produce people who take to this kind of role well:

  • Production or manufacturing operative (any sector)
  • Composites, GRP or fibreglass worker
  • Boat builder or marine fabricator
  • Joiner, carpenter or cabinet maker
  • Aircraft or vehicle body technician
  • Any trade or hands-on background with good manual dexterity and a strong work ethic

What matters most is attitude. The business has a strong track record of developing people, some of their best came in with no composites experience at all.

THE SETUP
  • Initial contract with a genuine route to permanent for the right person
  • Oxfordshire-based, on-site role
  • Well-equipped composites facility
  • A growing team at an exciting point in the business's development
