Job summary

Piran Composites in Cornwall is seeking a practical Composite Operative to join our production team. No previous composites experience is required as full training will be provided. You will learn to handle carbon fibre materials, operate tools, and support multiple production tasks in a hands-on environment.

The role is weekend‑only (Saturday and Sunday, 12-hour shifts 06:00–18:30). We value reliability, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Cut carbon fibre raw materials and kit for production.
• Lay up carbon fibre materials into mould tools.
• Release carbon composite components from moulds.
• Clean, seal and apply release agents to mould tools.
• Maintain production paperwork and documentation.
• Assist various production departments with lifting, fitting, gluing, and packing tasks.
• Follow production processes and quality requirements.
• Work safely and keep an organised working environment.

Job description

Piran Composites is an advanced carbon fibre manufacturing company producing high specification components and structures for aerospace and defence OEMs.

We are seeking a Composite Operative to join our production team and undertake a variety of tasks within our manufacturing environment.

The Role

No previous experience in composites is required, as full training will be provided.

We are looking for someone who is hands‑on, practical and willing to learn. Ideally, you will have some experience using basic hand tools and be comfortable working with your hands and carrying out practical tasks. Previous experience in engineering, manufacturing, assembly, construction, maintenance or a similar environment would be beneficial, but is not essential.

You will receive training for each task you are expected to perform, with the opportunity to develop your skills and become highly trained in advanced composite manufacturing.

Some examples of the tasks you will be performing include:

• Cutting and kitting carbon fibre raw materials
• Laying up carbon fibre materials into mould tools
• Releasing carbon composite components from moulds
• Cleaning, sealing and applying release agents to mould tools
• General cleaning and tidying of work areas
• Maintaining and completing relevant paperwork and production documentation
• Assisting various production departments with tasks such as manual lifting and fitting, gluing, machine maintenance, packaging and documentation
• Following production processes and quality requirements
• Working safely and maintaining a clean and organised working environment

Weekend Shift

This is a weekend‑only position, working Saturday and Sunday

• 12-hour shift: 06:00–18:30

The successful candidate must be comfortable working extended shifts across both Saturday and Sunday.

Previous composite manufacturing experience is not essential. We are more interested in finding someone who is reliable, hardworking, practical and eager to learn. Full training will be provided.
