Job summary

PERMANENT FUTURES LIMITED is seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join our engineering team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will maintain, repair and improve production machinery to keep equipment safe, reliable and operating efficiently.

Working closely with production and engineering colleagues, you will respond to breakdowns, carry out planned maintenance and implement improvements that reduce downtime and prevent recurring faults.

Qualifications

• Recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent is required.
• Experience in maintenance and fitting within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong fault-finding skills on production machinery and plant.
• Knowledge of mechanical drives, bearings, alignment, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and use measuring equipment safely and accurately.
• Commitment to safe maintenance practices and quality workmanship.
• Ability to prioritise changing workloads and stay calm under pressure.
• Clear communications and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on manufacturing machinery and equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical breakdowns promptly, balancing production priorities with safety.
• Dismantle, inspect, repair and reassemble mechanical components (bearings, gearboxes, pumps, drives, conveyors).
• Maintain and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Support installation, alignment, commissioning and modification of machinery.
• Investigate recurring faults and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Coordinate with production teams to plan maintenance and return equipment to service.
