Job summary

Sphere Solutions in Newport, South East Wales, seeks a Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead a high-performing commercial team across the Welsh Water Design & Build Framework. You will drive governance, reporting, and value for money on multiple call-off contracts and work closely with the Senior Commercial Manager.

The role requires a degree in Quantity Surveying or related field, strong NEC3 experience, and proven leadership in a construction/infrastructure setting.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline.
• Proven experience leading commercial teams in construction, utilities, or infrastructure.
• Extensive NEC3 knowledge including ECC Option A, Compensation Events, change control, and dispute resolution.
• Strong ability to negotiate contractual terms and provide governance and reporting oversight.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the commercial team including line management of Senior Quantity Surveyors.
• Take overall responsibility for commercial performance across call-off contracts.
• Lead monthly reporting, client reporting, CVRs, cash flow forecasting, and cost management.
• Manage NEC3 contracts, compensation events, change management, and disputes where needed.
• Drive improvements in commercial systems, reporting tools, and governance.
• Lead commercial risk management and provide strategic advice to project teams.
• Ensure robust contract administration and entitlement recovery under contracts.
