Managing Quantity Surveyor

The Role

Managing Quantity Surveyors are required in the Midlands as integral members of project teams, providing support to project delivery teams and senior management daily. They have the opportunity to develop existing skills while learning new ones within a collaborative and dynamic team environment.

You will work on civil engineering and infrastructure projects that vary in value, complexity, and duration, from established frameworks to bespoke projects and emergency works. Projects range from £200k to over £10m, and your role will be crucial in driving efficiencies, cost management, and delivering high standards of commercial analysis.

Your daily responsibilities will demonstrate your commercial acumen by identifying, recording, tracking, and realizing commercial opportunities, while also mitigating business risks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commercial Provision: Ensure accurate and timely cost and value reporting at project and business unit levels to inform group reporting. Provide cash flow reporting, cost management, project forecasting, and compile monthly CVRs, cost, and commercial plans.
  • Financial Management: Prepare upstream payment applications, manage subcontract procurement, negotiations, and financial accounting. Liaise with clients and third parties on commercial issues, including contractual changes, claims, and payments.
  • Forecasting and Cost Control: Work with project teams to forecast expenditure and cash recovery, sharing best practices and advising site teams on cost management and efficiencies.
  • Contracts Management: Manage contract and subcontract agreements, primarily NEC forms, ensuring terms align with corporate governance and risks are managed. Procure subcontracted works and manage post-contract activities, maintaining supply chain relationships.
  • Process Support: Support internal commercial processes, ensure adherence to timeframes, and seek process improvements.
Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience in the construction industry
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts and Construction Law
  • Experience in commercial management and subcontractor procurement
  • Experience in monthly forecasting and cost analysis
  • Excellent communication, numeracy, and computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong organization and time management skills to meet deadlines
Desirable Qualifications
  • Member of RICS or similar professional body, or working towards it
  • CSCS card
  • HND/degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
  • Knowledge of estimation and experience working for a direct delivery contractor
  • Problem-solving and engaging communication skills
