Job Opportunity: Commercial Manager (MQS) - Cambridge & Peterborough

We are seeking to strengthen our Commercial team with a MQS based at Cambridge & Peterborough, offering hybrid working arrangements.

Reporting Line: You will report directly to the Commercial Manager and will be responsible for:

• The commercial and cost management of a project section.
• Providing commercial support to delivery management and on-site teams.
• Ensuring operations control costs, maximize value, minimize liabilities, and uphold quality and safety standards.
• Working as part of an integrated delivery team to challenge and improve performance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Maintain accurate and aligned cost plans.
2. Meet reporting deadlines within the commercial calendar.
3. Assist in preparing robust estimates, including risk and opportunity analysis.
4. Manage subcontracts to reflect scope and contractual requirements.
5. Collaborate with Procurement to develop strategies.
6. Engage with site teams to manage allowances and outputs, providing challenge and communication.
7. Provide live forecasts and monitor actual costs against baseline.
8. Report variances and resolve issues proactively.
9. Ensure timely record-keeping and contract administration.
10. Support risk mitigation and change management.
11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Commercial Manager.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

• Experience managing costs within a complex Cost Breakdown Structure.
• Experience with NEC contracts.
• Understanding of water-water processes.
• Proven track record delivering large projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
• Driving license and relevant CSCS card.
• Strong negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to develop team culture and mentor staff.

Desirable:

• Degree or equivalent in engineering, management, or cost discipline.
• Chartered surveyor or working towards chartered status.
