Middlemarch Environmental, is a UK-wide natural environment consultancy of around 160 people, and the largest Wildlife Trust consultancy in the country. We’re wholly owned by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, and for more than 30 years we’ve helped clients get it right for nature through expert work in ecology, biodiversity and arboriculture. Every month our teams complete more than 300 projects, from ecological surveys and biodiversity net gain to habitat design and nature-based solutions. Over the past three years we’ve grown into a broader, bolder natural environment business, and we’re now looking for our next Managing Director to take us further: into new markets, in front of new audiences, and towards greater growth and impact.
Reporting to the Chair and working closely with the Board and the Trust, you will set and deliver Middlemarch’s long-term strategy and lead overall business performance, including budgeting, profitability, cashflow and risk. You will lead a committed team of technical specialists, project managers and support staff, building a high-performing leadership team and an inclusive, values-driven culture. Externally, you will drive business development, develop long-term client relationships and represent Middlemarch across the sector. Throughout, you will ensure that the quality and integrity of our work are maintained as the business grows.
We are looking for an established leader with a proven track record of running and growing a commercial consultancy or similar people-based business, with full responsibility for revenue, profitability and growth. You bring strong commercial and financial acumen, a sound understanding of governance, and a record of winning new work and managing strategic client relationships. You are a confident communicator, able to influence senior stakeholders, boards and external partners across corporate, public and charitable organisations. You lead by example, building high-performing teams and inclusive cultures, and you remain resilient and pragmatic when navigating competing priorities and change.
