Job description

Summary of Position
This permanent full-time position works to provide strategic development, coordination and oversight of fundraising and donor stewardship for the organization. This role is integral to ensuring sustainable funding, fostering relationships, and promoting the mission of Communitas through innovative fundraising and engagement strategies.

Expected Outcomes
· Develop and execute innovative, strategic fundraising and donor stewardship plans to ensure sustainable funding for The Downtown Mission of Windsor.
· Build and strengthen relationships with donors and community stakeholders to deepen their connection and commitment to the Mission’s work.
· Promote the Mission’s values and impact through engaging and personalized donor experiences.
· Collaborate closely with the Development and Enterprise teams to align fundraising efforts with organizational goals.
· Provide effective leadership and support to the Development and Donor Care Administrator and Development Assistant.
· Foster a culture of philanthropy and engagement across all levels of the organization.

Education
· College-level training and/or experience in a related field.
· Specific training in fundraising is an asset.
· Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is an asset.
· Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge and Experience Required
· A philosophy of service aligned with The Downtown Mission of Windsor’s Mission and Values.
· Strong emotional intelligence and relationship-building skills to inspire and cultivate donor trust and engagement.
· Demonstrated experience in fundraising or equivalent fields such as marketing, sales, or business development.
· Experience managing income and expenditure budgets and achieving financial targets.
· Familiarity with and ability to relate to individuals experiencing homelessness and/or mental illness.
· Excellent spoken and written communication skills with strong planning and organizational abilities.
· Ability to take initiative with creativity and work both independently and as part of a team.
· Proficiency with donor management systems (e.g., DonorPerfect, Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce).
· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
· Flexibility in working hours; must be available for occasional evening or weekend events/meetings.
· This position is primarily on-site, with occasional work-from-home opportunities upon request.

Skills and Qualities Required
· Demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive, professional relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners.
· Proven capacity to manage multiple projects and events simultaneously, while meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail.
· Innovative and resourceful in developing fundraising strategies, donor engagement initiatives, and creative campaign ideas.
· Proficient in using donor management software (e.g., DonorPerfect) to effectively track, analyze, and report on fundraising performance metrics.
· Passionate about community service with a strong alignment to the mission, vision, and values of The Downtown Mission of Windsor.
· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas for grant writing, donor communications, and public speaking.
· International experience in fundraising or community development is welcomed; Canadian work experience is not a requirement.

Other Requirements
· Valid Driver’s License with clean Driver’s Abstract.
· Reliable transportation is required.
· Experience with using Office 365 Suite and DonorPrefect.

Duties and Responsibilities
· Utilize DonorPerfect to manage donor records, process gifts, analyze data, and generate reports.
· Plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising events and campaigns in alignment with the Mission’s goals and values.
· Develop and maintain strong, meaningful relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners.
· Support the preparation of grant applications and assist in crafting donor communications such as newsletters, thank-you letters, and appeals.
· Collaborate with internal teams and leadership to achieve fundraising targets and enhance donor engagement strategies.
· Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising campaigns and events through performance metrics.
· Represent The Downtown Mission at community events, presentations, and public engagements as required.
· Assist in creating marketing and promotional materials for fundraising initiatives and donor outreach.
· Contribute to strategic planning for development initiatives and the annual fundraising calendar.
· Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and workplace policies at all events and in daily operations.
