Job summary

IHG, based at our global HQ in Windsor, seeks an experienced communications professional to lead external communications, support senior leaders, and manage CEO LinkedIn content. You’ll work across media relations, corporate responsibility, and crisis communications within a global matrixed environment.

You’ll collaborate with regions and agencies, develop strategic communications plans, and monitor emerging issues to keep leadership informed and the public appropriately engaged.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and spoken communication; eye for detail and audiences
• Experience in a global matrixed organisation with many moving parts
• Confidence working with senior leaders and understanding their needs
• Experience building strategy/content for company/senior leader LinkedIn channels
• Experience communicating around corporate responsibility topics
• Creative approach to content; familiarity with tools like Canva

Responsibilities

• Tell the story of IHG’s strategy, purpose and ambition to the outside world
• Support communications for our CEO, Executive Committee and PLC, including financial results and speaking engagements
• Lead external communications for Global Corporate Responsibility and Journey to Tomorrow
• Manage CEO LinkedIn content strategy and reporting, and support senior leaders
• Be part of the press office and handle media enquiries
• Help manage global crisis communications and protect our reputation
• Create communications plans and projects across regions; brief senior leaders; monitor news and issues; coordinate with agencies and calendars

The role covers media relations, executive communications, social media and corporate responsibility, all aimed at helping people understand and trust IHG.

This role will be based in our global HQ in Windsor.

Your day-to-day

Working closely with the Senior Manager, Global External Corporate Communications, you’ll:

• Tell the story of IHG’s strategy, purpose and ambition to the outside world
• Support communications for our CEO, Executive Committee and PLC, including financial results, corporate reporting and speaking engagements
• Lead external communications for our Global Corporate Responsibility team and our Journey to Tomorrow plan
• CEO LinkedIn, from strategy and content to reporting, as well as supporting other senior leaders.
• Be part of our press office, handling media enquiries on a proactive or reactive basis
• Help manage global crisis communications and protect our reputation
• Expect to pull together communications plans and projects across our regions and teams, write clear briefings for senior leaders, and keep an eye on the news and emerging issues so the right people know what’s happening. Alongside that, you’ll work with our communications agencies and keep the global external communications calendar on track.

What we need from you

A background in an in-house communications team, an agency or a mix of both means you already know how a busy communications function runs.

We’re also looking for:

• Excellent written and spoken communication skills, an eye for detail and good judgement on how different audiences will read your words
• Experience working in a global “matrixed” organisation with lots of moving parts and teams to bring along
• Confidence working with senior leaders and a good sense of the communications support they need
• Experience building strategy and content for company and/or senior leader LinkedIn channels
• Experience of communicating around corporate responsibility topics and issues
• A creative approach to content matters too, as does a genuine interest in the news and how communications is changing. We adapt our content for different audiences and channels, and we use different tools such as Canva, so experience with creative tools like these will serve you well.
