Job description

  • High level exposure
  • Great benefits
  • Genuine exposure

We're hiring exclusively for a Management Accountantposition that has some real scope, not just a month end production line.

You'll lead month end close, own the College's statutory financial statements and act as the key point of contact for external audit, run budget setting and forecasting, and manage a Finance Administrator, providing training, guidance and performance support.

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, you'll also work closely with budget holders across the College (many with no finance background), and get involved in ad hoc analysis and projects for the wider Senior Leadership Team.

Role Purpose
  • To ensure the efficient and effective delivery of financial services across the organisation, in line with internal policy and financial regulations, under the direction of the Director of Finance.
  • To produce accurate monthly management accounts, working with the senior finance team to review performance and resolve any discrepancies.
  • To provide budget holders with timely, accurate financial information and practical support in managing their allocations.
  • To support the senior finance team with budget setting and forecasting, including annual submissions.
  • To ensure full compliance with finance policies, procedures and financial regulations, and that all transactions are recorded accurately and efficiently.
  • To lead on month end and year end financial processes, including preparation of the annual financial statements and supporting working papers, working closely with the Director of Finance and external auditors.
  • To line manage a Finance Administrator supporting the Management Accountant function, including allocating work, and providing guidance, training and performance management.
Key Duties
  1. Own month end processes, including preparation and input of journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
  2. Prepare the monthly management accounts pack, including analysis and communication of financial performance to key stakeholders, incorporating budget vs actual analysis and supporting commentary.
  3. Drive continuous improvement in management accounting processes, controls and reporting.
  4. Produce and distribute monthly budget holder reports, providing effective financial support and guidance to budget holders, many of whom have non-finance backgrounds.
  5. Support the annual budget setting and forecasting process, providing detailed analysis and financial insight to inform decision-making.
  6. Lead the preparation of the annual statutory financial statements and supporting audit files, acting as a key point of contact for internal and external auditors during the year end audit.
  7. Line manage the Finance Administrator supporting the Management Accountant function, including allocating work, providing training and guidance, and supporting professional development.
  8. Take responsibility for ad hoc work, financial analysis and projects as required by the Director of Finance and wider senior leadership team.
  9. Drive positive change by identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and efficiency across the finance function.
  10. Ensure effective communication with managers, staff and external stakeholders.
  11. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and compliance with data protection and financial governance requirements at all times.
