Job summary

Vp plc in Harrogate is seeking a finalist or part-qualified accounting professional to join the Group Finance team. You will produce accurate management information and challenge processes, interrogating data independently to drive efficiency.

You will support monthly close, balance sheet reconciliations and VAT returns, liaise with divisional finance teams, and assist audits. A proactive, detail-focused candidate who meets deadlines under pressure will thrive.

Qualifications

• Must be CIMA/ACCA/ACA finalist or part-qualified and able to work in a large, high-volume organisation.
• Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and deliver under deadlines.
• Experience with month-end close, reconciliations and VAT returns.

Responsibilities

• Assist in producing management accounts to a high quality and within timetables.
• Prepare, review and document monthly balance sheet reconciliations and quarterly VAT returns.
• Build relationships with Divisional finance teams and Group functions.
• Assist in data compilation for external and internal audits and year-end reporting.
• Review and implement process and control improvements across finance activities.
• Maintain procedure notes for all areas of responsibility.
• Be involved in key Finance Team and Group projects as directed.
• Carry out additional duties as required to support business continuity.

Job description

The role is responsible for producing accurate and timely financial information across the Group’s divisional portfolio. The right candidate will be either a finalist or has a clearly defined pathway to full qualification, who is self-motivated, collaborative and able to provide continuous review/ challenge to existing processes and will be expected to interrogate financial data independently.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the team in the production of the management accounts, ensuring they are produced to a high quality and within published timetables
• Prepare, review and document monthly balance sheet reconciliations and quarterly VAT returns
• Build and maintain effective relationships with Divisional finance teams and other Group functions
• Assist in the compilation of data to support external and internal audit requirements and other information required for year end reporting, identifying efficiencies and improvements where annual process can be streamlined into monthly tasks
• Review, suggest improvements, and assist in the implementation of changes to the processes and controls around all aspects of finance
• Ensure appropriate procedure notes are maintained, updated and documented for all areas of responsibility
• Be involved in key projects within the Finance Team and the Group as directed
• When considered necessary or appropriate by management you may be required to carry out any duties considered within your skill and competence to assist the smooth running of the business.

The Ideal Candidate

• CIMA/ACCA/ACA finalist or part-qualified
• Experience of accounting processes in a large/high volume organisation
• Positive attitude and desire to take responsibility for an exceptional level of customer service provided by the finance team
• Demonstrate an ability to identify and implement continuous process improvement
• You should be able to provide clear evidence of working to and meeting deadlines in a pressurised environment
• Excellent attention to detail
• Experience of influencing outside of your own team
