This newly created role is perfect for a part-qualified accountant who wants to go beyond month-end. You’ll take real ownership of the financial close, develop business-wide understanding, and be embedded in decision-making rather than sitting at the sidelines. With qualified accountants on the team to support your development, this is a high-impact opportunity to grow in both technical and commercial skillsets.
Month-End & Reconciliations
Own the month-end process, working to a structured close timetable
Maintain and reconcile control accounts (e.g. accruals, prepayments, intercompany, deferred income)
Prepare and post journals including accruals, prepayments, and reclassifications
Prepare schedules for fixed assets, VAT, C79s, and other key balance sheet items
Reconcile supplier and customer balances and resolve discrepancies
Management Reporting
Prepare monthly management accounts in GBP, including P&L, balance sheet, trial balance, and nominal ledger reports
Support variance analysis and commentary in collaboration with the wider team
Assist in analytical reviews and reconciliation of actuals vs. budget
Operational Accounting
Maintain and update Xero with relevant supporting documentation
Process and validate employee expense claims, credit card reconciliations, and petty cash submissions
Support VAT return preparation and ensure completeness of audit trail documentation
Liaise with stakeholders to collect inputs needed for accurate reporting (e.g. holiday accruals, bad debt write-offs, provisioning)
Other ad-hoc accounting & finance tasks as required by the team
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Identify ways to streamline recurring processes and automate where possible
Support audit preparation by maintaining robust, well-documented reconciliations
Be a proactive member of the team, open to taking on new tasks and developing your skills
Essential:
Actively studying towards ACCA / CIMA / ACA (part-qualified)
2+ years in a similar role, ideally in a fast-paced or scaling business
Solid understanding of double-entry accounting, reconciliations, and month-end processes
Proficiency with cloud-based accounting systems (Xero highly preferred)
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
Excellent attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership
Able to work independently and manage time across recurring and ad-hoc tasks
Desirable:
Experience with multi-entity or group structures
Exposure to foreign currency transactions and exchange rate translation
Comfort working in an evolving environment with changing priorities
Direct involvement in the full financial cycle, not just closing the books
