Management Accountant / Outsourcing Manager

Location: Just outside of Cambridge – Hybrid working

Sector: Practice – Management Accounts / Outsourcing

AJ Chambers is recruiting for an experienced Management Accountant / Outsourcing Manager to join a well‑established, forward‑thinking accountancy firm serving a diverse portfolio that includes high‑growth tech and biotech start‑ups.

The Role

You’ll work across a varied portfolio of around 40 clients, providing hands‑on management accounting, financial reporting, and advisory support. Approximately half of these clients currently receive management accounts, with a mix of monthly and quarterly reporting cycles, and others requiring VAT return preparation.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll:

• Oversee and prepare management accounts for a diverse portfolio of SME clients (typically £1m‑£2m turnover)
• Review bookkeeping and VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance
• Liaise directly with business owners and finance teams, offering commercial insights and financial recommendations
• Support start‑up and scale‑up clients within the high‑tech and biotech sectors
• Assist with process improvements, system migrations, and unpicking complex client issues
• Mentor junior team members, reviewing work and helping with development
• Play a key role in shaping the department and taking on more management responsibility as the current head transitions to retirement

About You

You can be at any level of experience: from newly qualified to those with a few years of post‑qualified experience who are ready to step up.
