Job summary

AJ Chambers is seeking a Management Accountant to join its Basildon finance team for a hands-on role delivering monthly management accounts, budgeting and forecasting with commercial insight.

The role covers P&L and balance sheet analysis, month-end processes, stock reporting and profitability analysis, working closely with the Financial Controller and senior management.

Qualifications

• ACCA/CIMA/ACA part-qualified, finalist or qualified or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in management accounting within a commercial business.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to handle large data sets.
• Experience with an ERP/accounting system and stock/margins analysis.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting schedules.
• Full P&L and balance sheet analysis.
• Month-end journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Balance sheet reconciliations and investigation of variances.
• Monthly management reporting and commentary.
• Budgeting and forecasting.
• Cash flow reporting and analysis.
• Stock and inventory reporting, including stock movements and valuation.
• Product/customer profitability analysis.
• Supporting year-end accounts and audit requirements.
• Assisting with financial planning and business forecasting.
• Providing financial insight to operational and commercial teams.
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and reporting.
• Supporting the Financial Controller with ad hoc commercial analysis and projects.

Job description

A well-established and growing manufacturing and distribution business based in Basildon is looking to appoint a Management Accountant to join its finance team.

This is a hands‑on role offering the opportunity to work closely with the Financial Controller and wider senior management team, providing accurate financial reporting and commercial insight across the business.

The role would suit a part-qualified or qualified accountant who enjoys working in a commercially focused environment and wants exposure beyond the traditional month‑end function.

The role:

• Preparation of monthly management accounts and supporting schedules


• Full P&L and balance sheet analysis


• Month‑end journals, accruals and prepayments


• Balance sheet reconciliations and investigation of variances


• Monthly management reporting and commentary


• Budgeting and forecasting


• Cash flow reporting and analysis


• Analysis of sales, gross margins and overheads


• Stock and inventory reporting, including stock movements and valuation


• Product/customer profitability analysis


• Supporting year‑end accounts and audit requirements


• Assisting with financial planning and business forecasting


• Providing financial insight to operational and commercial teams


• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and reporting


• Supporting the Financial Controller with ad hoc commercial analysis and projects

About you:

• ACCA/CIMA/ACA part‑qualified, finalist or qualified – or equivalent practical experience


• Previous management accounting experience within a commercial business


• Manufacturing, distribution, engineering, logistics or stock‑based business experience would be advantageous


• Strong Excel skills and comfortable working with large data sets


• Experience with an ERP/accounting system


• Good understanding of stock, margins and cost analysis


• Commercially minded with the ability to explain financial information to non‑finance stakeholders


• Strong attention to detail and able to work to tight month‑end deadlines


• Someone who enjoys getting into the detail but can also step back and understand the wider commercial picture

The package:

• £45,000 – £55,000 depending on experience and qualification


• Monday – Friday, office based in Basildon
