Northern Lifetime Limited is seeking a dedicated support worker to assist a 51-year-old man with brain injury, physical challenges and visual impairment. You’ll help with meals, light domestic tasks and daily activities, driving his car, and providing daytime and evening support in his home and local community.
The role requires flexibility for weekends by arrangement, DBS clearance, and a collaborative approach with the Case Manager and family. Training and supervision are provided.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team of support workers.
Our client is a 51 year old man with a brain injury, physical difficulties, and a visual impairment. He is a very sociable character, easy to warm to and loves a bit of friendly banter, especially if it is football related. He occasionally gets frustrated, but he is able to discuss this and reflect on it afterwards.
He is football crazy and loves anything to do with Liverpool Football Club, not least going to the pub to watch the TV coverage of games. He enjoys time with his family, making music, and watching films. Over recent months our client has become less inclined to spend time away from home and we are looking for a skilled support worker who can support him to get back to spending time doing the things he previously loved.
He is very excited at recently completing an independent living trial and as a result has been living independent from January 2024. The client receives support from his team Monday to Friday, with weekend care currently being provided by family, though this may change in the future and further care hours will be available.
Currently your role would be preparing his meals and supporting with day to day domestic tasks. He only requires minimal personal care, for example support getting into the bath and dressing his lower half.
You won’t require your own car, but you will need to be a confident driver of our client’s own automatic vehicle. This will be mainly on short local drives to appointments, for shopping, to pub for the football etc, and possibly further afield on holidays.
1) To work with our client, a man who has a brain injury, in his own home and in the community.
2) To enable him to participate in recreational and leisure activities, both at home and in the community - such as caring for his pet, going to the pub, social events.
3) To carry out light domestic duties in his house as appropriate, including meal preparation.
4) To act as a driver, using his vehicle mainly locally, and further afield if needed
5) To provide daytime and evening support
6) To have availability enough to offer cover for staff holidays and sickness.
7) To aid and support the client as directed by the Case Manager.
8) To follow an agreed approach, and use strategies documented in the support plan, working in collaboration with the client’s family, case manager, team leader and any other professionals when required.
9) To undertake training and supervision as agreed by the Case Manager.
10) To ensure client confidentiality in all matters relating to the client.
11) To provide assistance and support as directed by the Case Manager, and to be responsible to the client via the Case Manager.
12) Any other appropriate and reasonable task in relation to the employment as agreed with the client and Case Manager.
13) To provide daily ongoing support/prompts to assist the client to undertake personal care and domestic activities.
14) To accompany the client on holidays and weekends away when required.
You will be employed by the client via their Deputy and managed day to day by Northern Lifetime.
You will be line managed by the Case Manager on behalf of the Deputy.
The contract allows for accrued annual leave, paid each month at 12.07% of hours worked.
You will receive initial and on-going training, plus regular supervision from the Case Manager.
Rates of pay: £13.97 p/h weekday hours, £15 p/h weekend hours, sleep in shift if ever required is currently £10.78, and double time per hour on bank holidays
