Job summary
Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is seeking a Research Assistant to join the Functional Genetics Group, led by Professor Tony Nolan. The post supports collaboration with Target Malaria on malaria control, focusing on gene drive and genome editing in Anopheles funestus.
You will perform molecular biology, data collection and manuscript preparation in a dynamic lab. Ideal candidates hold a BSc in Biological Science or related field (MRes/MSc desirable) and have hands-on experience with
Qualifications
- BSc in Biological Science or related subject
- MRes or MSc in Biological Science or related subject
- Experience with molecular biology techniques
- Familiarity with genome editing approaches (CRISPR)
- Experience working in a laboratory setting
Responsibilities
- Provide molecular biology support, including genotyping and basic cloning
- Assist in designing genetic constructs for transgenic lines
- Perform DNA/RNA extractions, PCR and qPCR
- Design and execute plasmid cloning and screening procedures
- Conduct basic bioinformatic analyses and primer design
- Assist in designing guide RNAs for CRISPR genome editing
- Maintain mosquito lines and rear colonies in the insectary
- Contribute to lab maintenance and ordering of supplies
- Assist with supervision of students and visitors
- Plan and organise resources for smooth lab operation
