Job summary

Morson Group is seeking a Maintenance Technician for a 6-month contract in Congleton. You will maintain electrical and mechanical equipment, respond to breakdowns and support a proactive maintenance strategy to minimise downtime.

You will lead fault-finding, perform PPM tasks, and help optimise automated and manufacturing equipment while recording activities in CMMS and contributing to safety standards.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical engineering experience.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing, industrial or engineering environment.
  • Good PC literacy and experience using maintenance/CMMS systems.
  • PLC knowledge would be advantageous.
  • Practical understanding of Lean Manufacturing, 7S and TPM.
  • Enthusiastic about automation, robotics, Industry 4.0, data analytics and emerging technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and Root Cause Analysis skills.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider maintenance and production team.
  • Flexible approach to working shifts, including weekends, overtime and occasional nights.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead rapid electrical and mechanical fault-finding, diagnostics and repairs to minimise production downtime.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Diagnose faults methodically and restore equipment to safe and efficient operation.
  • Support the maintenance and optimisation of automated, robotic and manufacturing equipment.
  • Use CMMS systems to accurately record maintenance activities, faults, repairs and follow-up actions.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve machine reliability, efficiency and availability.
  • Develop and maintain technical One Point Lessons (OPLs) and maintenance documentation.
  • Support energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives across the site.
  • Contribute to Lean Manufacturing, 7S and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities.
  • Support the use of predictive maintenance techniques and AI-driven equipment monitoring.
  • Analyse maintenance and equipment data to identify potential failures before they occur.
  • Work with Industry 4.0 technologies, including robotics, automation, data analytics and AI-integrated systems.
  • Assist in developing a proactive maintenance culture, reducing reliance on reactive repairs.

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Location: Congleton


Salary: £18.49-36.98/hr


Type of role: contract (initially for 6 months)


Working hours: 37.5hrs/week (8hrs/day)

Our client is a prominent railway infrastructure company committed to excellence in the rail industry. We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician to join the team in Congleton.


In this essential role, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving electrical and mechanical equipment, responding to breakdowns, and supporting a proactive maintenance strategy. You will play a key role in minimising downtime, improving equipment reliability and maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.


Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Breakdown Recovery:



  • Lead rapid electrical and mechanical fault-finding, diagnostics and repairs to minimise production downtime.

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.

  • Diagnose faults methodically and restore equipment to safe and efficient operation.

  • Support the maintenance and optimisation of automated, robotic and manufacturing equipment.

  • Use CMMS systems to accurately record maintenance activities, faults, repairs and follow-up actions.


Safety & Compliance:



  • Follow all relevant Health & Safety procedures and company standards.

  • Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and ensure equipment is safely isolated before maintenance activities.

  • Complete dynamic risk assessments and ensure safe systems of work are followed.

  • Maintain compliance with relevant engineering, electrical and mechanical standards.


Reliability & Continuous Improvement:



  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions.

  • Identify opportunities to improve machine reliability, efficiency and availability.

  • Develop and maintain technical One Point Lessons (OPLs) and maintenance documentation.

  • Support energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives across the site.
