Job summary

Mitie Group plc. is seeking a Handyperson / Caretaker to support the Facilities Manager in delivering high-quality maintenance.

The role covers cleaning, repairs, and site safety across Wakefield (WF6) with occasional cover at Leeds and Carr Gate. The ideal candidate will have experience in similar maintenance roles, a strong focus on health and safety, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Experience in a hands-on maintenance role such as Handyperson, Caretaker, Maintenance Assistant or Fabric Engineer.
• Experience in a customer-facing environment with effective communication.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with attention to detail.
• Strong understanding of health and safety requirements and safe systems of work.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general porterage and cleaning, maintain entrances, grounds and internal areas.
• Complete Planned Preventative Maintenance tasks and inspect plant/equipment; report faults.
• Undertake minor repairs to fixtures, fittings and plumbing; replace lamps and bulbs.
• Carry out painting/decorating and assist with room setups including AV and furniture.
• Receive, check and store deliveries; liaise with colleagues and contractors to ensure smooth operations.

ROLE: Handyperson / Caretaker

HOURS: 42 Hours per Week

LOCATION: Wakefield (WF6) with occasional cover at Leeds and Carr Gate

We're looking for a Handyperson / Caretaker who will support the Facilities Manager in delivering a high-quality maintenance and facilities service, ensuring the site remains safe, clean, compliant and operational at all times.

Role Responsibilities

• Carry out general porterage, cleaning duties (including cell cleaning), and maintain internal and external areas, entrances and surrounding grounds.
• Complete Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks, routine inspections of plant and equipment, and report any breakdowns or faults.
• Undertake minor repairs to property, fixtures, fittings and equipment, including replacement of lamps, light bulbs, and addressing minor plumbing issues such as blocked drains and toilets.
• Carry out painting and decorating duties as directed by management and assist with room setups, including AV equipment, sound systems, media equipment and furniture.
• Receive, check and store deliveries, liaise with colleagues and contractors, and support the smooth day-to-day operation of the site.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet the below defined requirements for the role.

• Previous experience working as a Handyperson, Caretaker, Maintenance Assistant, Fabric Engineer or in a similar maintenance role.
• Experience within a customer-facing environment and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and customers.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a proactive approach and strong attention to detail.
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements, manual handling and safe systems of work.
• Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel between sites within a 10-mile radius.

Additional Information

• Permanent, Full-Time Position
• Shift Pattern: 2 Days, 2 Nights, followed by 4 Days Off
• Compliance Requirement: West Yorkshire Police Vetting
• Primary location: Wakefield (WF6) with potential cover required at Leeds and Carr Gate sites
