Job summary

Ulster Yarns in Dewsbury is seeking a Maintenance Technician for our Twisting/Finishing process. You will set up, maintain and repair textile machinery to maximise production efficiency, with hands-on mechanical work and fault diagnosis.

The role requires experience with mechanical production equipment, a practical apprenticeship or similar qualifications, and the ability to read mechanical/electrical drawings. A proactive, collaborative team player is essential.

Qualifications

• Hands-on engineering background with mechanical production machinery.
• Time-served apprenticeship or qualified in mechanical engineering preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
• Strong fault diagnosis and problem-solving skills.
• Clear communication of SOPs, fault findings and actions to the team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair machines in line with planned and preventative maintenance.
• Minimise downtime by proactive fault diagnosis and timely action.
• Diagnose and resolve faults in a systematic manner.
• Develop and update SOPs for each machine.
• Contribute to maintenance schedules and keep accurate work records.
• Identify and procure parts and components to reduce downtime.
• Assist with installation of new machinery and supervise apprentices.
• Maintain a safe working environment through housekeeping and safety reporting.

Job description

We have an exciting vacancy at Ulster Yarns, our Yarn Supply plant based in Dewsbury for a Maintenance Technician within our Twisting/Finishing process. This role is engineering based and will involve the set-up, maintenance and repair of a range of textile related machinery including Twisting machines to ensure maximum production efficiency.

A hands-on practical engineering background working with mechanical production machinery & equipment. You may also be a qualified / time-served apprenticeship, preferably in mechanical related background

Quick learner, with the ability to understand how machines operate

Ability to recognise, diagnose and correct faults on a range of machinery & equipment

Technical competence to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings

Manual dexterity to carry out all maintenance activities

Communication skills to convey SOPs, fault diagnoses and corrective actions to management, apprentices and colleagues

Tenacity to work through problems to final completion and correction

Composure to react in a positive manner in difficult / emergency breakdown scenarios

Experience working in the textiles industry particularly with twisting and yarn finishing processes, in particular experience of Saurer 241 Twisting and HDB Ring Twisting machinery would be an advantage

Experience working with pneumatic equipment

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain and repair machines in line with the planned and preventative maintenance schedule

Ensure machine downtime is carefully monitored, managed and reduced as necessary

Proactive and responsive to machine breakdowns to minimise impact on production

Diagnose and resolving faults, machine emergencies or unplanned problems in a systematic and logical manner

Problem solve one off and recurring issues to implement effective corrective actions

Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures for each machine

Contribute to the development of planned and preventative maintenance schedules

Completion of work records for all maintenance activities

Identify, request and purchase a range of machine parts, fixture and components. Ensure adequate stock levels of parts are maintained on site to reduce machine downtime.

Work as part of a project team on the installation of new machinery

Supervise, train and develop apprentice technicians and other colleagues

To always maintain a safe working environment through excellent housekeeping, reporting all safety and maintenance issues to the Manager

Be an active member of the team and treat all team members with respect

Carry out all duties in line with standard operating procedures and training in a safe and efficient manner.
