Job summary

Evotec in Abingdon is seeking a maintenance engineer to execute planned preventive maintenance across building, plant and equipment, ensuring uninterrupted day-to-day operations in a pharmaceutical/life-science environment.

You will liaise with external contractors, manage building services, and participate in routine testing and on-call duties. The role requires a hands-on, proactive, and reliable team player with strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Experience in facilities, manufacturing, chemical, utility or laboratory environments.
• Post mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent experience essential.
• H&S training and safe working practices expected.

• Execute planned preventative maintenance on building, plant and equipment to support day-to-day operations.
• Liaise with external contractors for maintenance tasks and repairs; manage on-site services and systems.
• Support routine activities (fire alarm tests, daily checks) and participate in on-call rota (~1 week per month).

Job description

• Execute Planned Preventative Maintenance to ensure that the building, plant and equipment continues to support day to day operations.
• Maintain site services; AHU's, extract fans/motors, electrical LV systems, lighting, water systems (process /domestic) inclusive of pumps, laboratory fume cupboards, pipework, calorifiers, boilers, pressurisation units and vacuum systems. Complete investigations, problem solving, and fault finding when breakdowns occur.
• Liaise with, manage, and support external contractors in maintaining; gas boilers, compressed air, UPS, electrical LV switchgear, PAT, BMS, fire alarm, generators, laboratory gas services, general building fabric and facility repairs, AC/chillers, LEV & pressurised equipment.
• As a Team member, support routine activities such as weekly fire alarm testing, and daily checks to verify correct operation of engineering plant.
• Action maintenance/engineering requests, either internally or by use of external contractors for specialist work.
• Occasional weekend/out of hours work and participation in on-call rota (~1 week per month)
• Undertake the duties outlined above and other duties as directed by Engineering Management and from time to time carry out any additional tasks as may be required to support the Company. Experience gained in operation of a Building Management System, Energy Initiatives and/or working in ATEX environments would be advantageous.
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, co-operative and reliable with the desire and motivation to grow and take on increased responsibility and/or supervisory responsibility.
• Able to learn new techniques, processes and procedures.
• Customer focused, with ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Able to work methodically with attention to detail, even when under pressure.
• Basic computer literacy and knowledge is expected.
• Enthusiastic and flexible, positive 'go the extra mile' approach., Working knowledge, ideally gained in a pharmaceutical (GMP) or life-science research organisation undertaking laboratory activities.
• Industry experience post Mechanical Apprenticeship, or equivalent experience (NVQ Level 2/3) gained in a facilities, manufacturing, chemical, utility or laboratory environment is essential.
