Job summary

Hitachi Rail UK Limited is seeking an experienced Strategic Planner to drive maintenance planning across operations, projects, procurement and data teams. You’ll develop long‑term maintenance strategies, optimise capacity and provide modelling and insight to support delivery and bids.

You’ll lead tools, forecasts and governance, ensure data integrity, and influence cross‑functional decisions. The role is UK-based across multiple locations.

Qualifications

• Experience in engineering or maintenance planning within a complex operational environment.
• Advanced Excel with complex modelling and dynamic array functions.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities with data interpretation.
• Hands-on engineering experience to support fleet improvement strategies.
• Proven ability to influence and engage stakeholders across disciplines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Collaborative approach to cross-functional planning.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and maintenance of planning tools (maintenance plans, forecasts).
• Validate schedules against technical/contractual requirements and support operations.
• Develop and implement heavy maintenance strategies across fleets.
• Identify opportunities to optimise labour, materials, intervals and locations.
• Create scenario-based planning models for bids and delivery.
• Manage risks related to material availability and depot capacity.
• Collaborate with Projects, Operations and Procurement to ensure robust plans.
• Support governance and data integrity in planning systems.
