Job Description

The Maintenance Planner is a key role within the maintenance team to support the safe operation of assets, plant productivity, and reliability. As the Maintenance Planner, you will report directly to the Maintenance Manager and work closely with the maintenance team, engineering team, scheduler, procurement, and approved vendors. It will be essential to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with all parties.

This role is key to delivering and maintaining all site safety standards throughout the site’s assets, ensuring site and industry regulations are followed, and enabling operation as a top-tier COMAH site.

The role involves meeting regulatory and customer quality requirements related to ISO9001, ISO14001, and cGMP, as well as cross-contamination prevention. The Maintenance Planner will deliver maintenance plans to ensure manufacturing performance.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Key Accountabilities

The main duties of this role include ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards are maintained throughout the planning and delivery of all work on assets. This includes planning breakdowns, PMs, compliance work, site regulatory work, and defects in accordance with industry standards, EHS regulations, and timely completion. Daily activities include:

  • Encouraging a positive and safety-first mentality throughout the business.
  • Investigating and inspecting work orders raised through the CMMS, engaging with the engineering team to determine the appropriate course of action.
  • Creating detailed work packs with estimated labor hours, bill of materials, job method sheets (JMS), P&IDs, test method sheets, procedures, and equipment locations.
  • Engaging with maintenance supervisors to develop task-specific RAMS for all planned work on assets.
  • Identifying external labor requirements, engaging with approved subcontractors, submitting supporting documents, and obtaining cost estimates, seeking cost-saving opportunities.
  • Identifying required materials, checking stock inventory, and liaising with external suppliers.
  • Creating detailed plans to ensure correct information is obtained for WCP.
  • Updating CMMS, managing work order statuses, actively managing backlog, and contributing to weekly KPIs.
  • Owning the creation of PRs through the CMMS and following through to completion.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Reading and understanding engineering drawings, P&IDs, loop check sheets, wiring diagrams.
  • Supporting the Maintenance Manager in setting the budget for the upcoming financial year.
  • Working closely with the maintenance scheduler to create weekly schedules and optimize site resources.
  • Assisting in developing and updating preventative maintenance plans.
  • Identifying spare and replacement equipment needs.
SHEQ Management

Ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards are maintained during planning and work delivery. Promoting a positive safety culture, ensuring work is carried out safely and according to guidelines, reporting accidents or near misses, and suggesting improvements and best practices.

Core Skills and Competencies

Time-served craftsman with around 5 years of post-apprenticeship experience, primarily in instrumentation or electrical trades. Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, work independently and as part of a team, and manage time effectively. Good situational awareness to leverage maintenance opportunities from outages or breakdowns.

Team building and incentive skills to foster good relationships across departments. Maintenance KPIs include planned maintenance compliance, safety-critical defect closure, first-time right work, and planning accuracy.

Communication

Ability to communicate and coordinate with production and other departments, manage instructions based on site priorities, and use Microsoft Office applications effectively. Building strong relationships with internal teams and external suppliers is essential.
