The Maintenance Planner is a key role within the maintenance team, supporting the safe operation of assets, plant productivity, and reliability. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, the planner works closely with the maintenance team, engineering, scheduling, procurement, and approved vendors. Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with all parties is essential.
This role is crucial in ensuring site safety standards, compliance with industry regulations, and adherence to certifications such as ISO9001, ISO14001, and cGMP, including cross-contamination prevention. The planner is responsible for delivering maintenance plans that support manufacturing performance.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
- Ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are maintained during planning and execution of work on assets.
- Plan and schedule breakdowns, preventive maintenance, compliance work, and defect rectification in accordance with industry standards and regulations.
- Investigate work orders raised through the CMMS, determine appropriate actions, and develop detailed work packs with estimated labor, materials, and procedures.
- Engage with maintenance supervisors to develop task-specific RAMS for all planned work.
- Identify external labor needs, engage with subcontractors, and ensure timely submission of supporting documents and cost estimates.
- Check inventory, identify required materials, and coordinate with external suppliers.
- Create and manage work plans to ensure accurate information collection for WCP.
- Update CMMS, manage work order statuses, and actively reduce backlog.
- Contribute to weekly KPIs and manage procurement requests from creation to completion.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and wiring diagrams.
- Assist in setting the maintenance budget and work with the scheduler to optimize resource allocation.
- Develop and update preventive maintenance plans and identify spare/replacement equipment.
SHEQ Management
- Maintain health, safety, and environmental standards in planning and execution.
- Promote a safety-first culture within the maintenance team.
- Ensure work complies with safety guidelines and report incidents or near misses.
- Share best practices and improvements with the team.
Core Skills and Competencies
- Approximately 5 years of post-apprenticeship experience, preferably in electrical or instrumentation trades.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, work independently and in teams, and manage time effectively.
- Situational awareness to leverage maintenance opportunities during outages or breakdowns.
- Ability to build relationships across departments and with external suppliers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and SharePoint.
- Understanding of responsible business practices and confidentiality.
