The Maintenance Planner is a key role within the maintenance team, supporting the safe operation of assets, plant productivity, and reliability. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Planner works closely with the maintenance team, engineering team, scheduler, procurement, and approved vendors. Establishing and maintaining healthy working relationships with all parties is essential.
This role is crucial for delivering and maintaining site safety standards across the assets, ensuring compliance with site and industry regulations, and operating as a top-tier COMAH site. The Maintenance Planner also ensures regulatory and customer quality requirements related to ISO9001, ISO14001, and cGMP are met, including cross-contamination prevention. The role involves delivering maintenance plans to support manufacturing performance.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Key Accountabilities
- Maintain health, safety, and environmental standards throughout planning and work delivery on assets.
- Plan breakdowns, preventive maintenance (PMs), compliance work, regulatory tasks, and defects in accordance with industry standards and EHS regulations, ensuring timely completion.
- Encourage a safety-first mentality within the business.
- Investigate and inspect work orders raised through the CMMS; collaborate with engineering to determine appropriate actions.
- Create detailed work packs with estimated labor hours, BOM, JMS, P&ID's, test sheets, procedures, and equipment locations.
- Develop task-specific RAMS with maintenance supervisors for planned work.
- Identify external labor needs, engage sub-contractors, and ensure timely submission of supporting documents and cost estimates.
- Identify required materials, check inventory, and coordinate with suppliers.
- Update CMMS, manage work order status, and actively reduce backlog.
- Contribute to weekly KPIs and create PRs through CMMS, following through to completion.
Engineering and Planning Support
- Read and understand engineering drawings, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and check sheets.
- Support budget setting for the upcoming financial year.
- Work with the scheduler to create weekly plans and optimize resources.
- Assist in developing and adjusting preventive maintenance plans and updating PMs in the CMMS.
- Identify spare and replacement equipment needs.
SHEQ Management
- Maintain health, safety, and environmental standards during planning and work delivery.
- Promote a positive safety culture within the maintenance team.
- Ensure work is performed safely and according to company guidelines.
- Report accidents, near misses, and suggest improvements and best practices.
Core Skills and Competencies
- Approximately 5 years of post-apprenticeship experience, primarily in electrical or instrumentation trades.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, work independently and in teams, and manage time effectively.
- Situational awareness to leverage maintenance opportunities during outages or breakdowns.
- Ability to build relationships across departments and with external suppliers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and SharePoint.
- Understanding of responsible business practices and confidentiality.
