Job summary

Excelcare is seeking a Maintenance Operative in Harlow to maintain the premises and grounds with a proactive, customer-focused approach. A strong sense of ownership, attention to detail, and ability to work in a client-facing capacity are essential.

You will join a regional maintenance team supporting 11 homes in Essex, with a Monday–Friday 8am–5pm schedule, plus on-call rota for emergencies. A full UK driving licence and own vehicle are required for regional travel.

Qualifications

• Experience in handy person/maintenance roles.
• Own basic tools; materials provided by the company.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Enhanced DBS (criminal records check) required for working with vulnerable adults.
• Full UK driving licence and own vehicle; travel to other homes in the region expected.

Responsibilities

• Maintain premises and grounds to a high standard for residents.
• Carry out routine checks and inspections and report issues.
• Adhere to health and safety and fire policies; ensure regulatory compliance.
• Assist with induction of new team members and training as needed.
• Travel to other sites in the region for projects or emergencies.

We have an opportunity for a Maintenance Operative to work in Harlow. As a Maintenance Operative you should be a general allrounder with excellent attention to detail, a positive can do attitude who enjoys working in a client facing role and can offer a great customer experience. You will form part of the Regional maintenance team who support the 11 homes throughout the Essex region.

Excelcare is a family owned Care Home group established for over 34 years. We provide the highest standards of care to older people with a range of needs including dementia, physical disabilities, and mental health issues. By joining us you will become one of the ‘family’ and in return for your dedication and hard work you can expect:

• 45 hours a week from 8am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.
• There will be on call shared between the maintenance team on a rota.

To apply for this role you will need a full UK driving licence as well as your own vehicle.

About the role:

• As the Maintenance Operative your role is ensure the premises and grounds are maintained to a high standard and provide the people living in our care homes a safe, comfortable, and pleasant environment.
• Maintain all records in accordance with company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Carry out routine checks and inspections as required and report on this and any issues. Eg Loler testing.
• Adhere to Company policies and procedures paying particular attention to health and safety and fire policies.
• Be aware of legislation with regards to property and facilities to ensure works are compliant at completion.
• Support with the induction of new team members as required to ensure they have the necessary skill and knowledge to perform their role.
• Always maintain confidentiality.
• Ordering and checking of stock when delivered.
• Work with the Home Manager, Teams and the people living in our homes.
• To carry out any additional duties as requested.
• As we operate seven days a week, there is an on call rota to support the homes in emergency situations during the evenings and weekends however call outs are paid. This is shared between the maintenance team
• To undertake any additional training and development that would be beneficial for your own self development.
• Have knowledge of electrics.

What we are looking for from you:

• Previous experience in a handy person/maintenance/painting and decorating/gardening role.
• Your own basic tools, however, all materials will be provided.
• A full driving licence for use in the UK is essential as well as your own vehicle as there will be a need to travel to other homes in the region for projects or an emergency if required. Mileage will be paid via expenses.
• Basic computer knowledge
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Completion of an enhanced DBS (Criminal Records Check) as you would be working in the home of vulnerable adults.
