Job summary

Bupa's Wingham Court in Esher is seeking a Maintenance Operative to keep our care home facilities in top condition. You will carry out planned and reactive maintenance on buildings and equipment, logging tasks and quotes, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

You'll work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, support induction of colleagues, and may travel to nearby sites within a reasonable distance. A driving licence and hands-on trade experience are required.

Qualifications

  • A good understanding of building services including heating, hot and cold-water distribution, ventilation, electrical distribution and plumbing.
  • Practical experience of planned maintenance systems and record keeping.
  • Knowledge of relevant statutory requirements and experience of compliance.
  • A full driving licence.
  • A building/electrical/plumbing qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC, ONC, HNC) or minimum 3 years hands-on experience in property maintenance and general repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain facilities to ensure they remain fully functional and compliant with SOPs and regulations.
  • Carry out safety checks and close tasks in the compliance tools.
  • Report defects, obtain quotes, manage repairs with approved contractors.
  • Assist with induction of new colleagues and regional maintenance support as required.
  • Support refurbishment and capital works with minimal disruption to residents and staff.

The home benefits from four acres of beautifully well-maintained gardens.The therapy department has a fully equipped gym, providing slow stream rehabilitation. The physical management programme is person-centred and focuses on preventing secondary complications and maximising function.There is a bustling atmosphere in the home, with things going on which residents can freely join in with like quizzes, singing workshops, films, sports, Zumba, tai chi, visiting entertainers, etc. There are also special interest groups such as discussions, documentaries, ladies night, darts, boccia, reading, and gardening.They also arrange lots of bespoke and 1-2-1 activities to cater for residents' special interests, or where extra support is required to ensure their participation. They have their own mini bus for regular trips out to the pub, shopping and even the local ice skating rink, so residents don't feel out of touch with their local community.There is a dedicated art lounge and professional art teacher, children's playground, a well-furnished IT suite, beautiful grounds with raised beds and two Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) registered tennis courts.We make health happenHere at Bupa we support those when they need it the most. You will maintain buildings and equipment effectively while complying with all relevant Bupa Standard Operating Procedures, legislation, and industry best practices. Your role is crucial in ensuring our accommodation meets Bupa's cultural and brand values.You'll help us make health happen by:Ensuring that all health and safety and compliance checks are carried out using the provided digital systems as per the timescales directed by Bupa Standard Operating Procedures and by Bupa compliance management tools and softwareAction and close any tasks attributed to the Maintenance Manager or home highlighted on Bupa compliance management tools and softwareEnsure that safety and cleanliness within the care home and grounds is to the satisfaction of Environmental Health, local Fire Authority requirements, Legionella Risk Assessment requirements and Health & Safety regulations etcEnsure that all necessary maintenance and repair tasks are completed to a high standard, in a timely manner and offer value for money whilst ensuring internal decoration continues to meet the organisations vision regarding first impressionsEnsure regular review of residents' preferences in relation to their personal space is documented and actionedReport defects, obtain quotes and manage repairs using Bupa approved contractors, complying at all times with Bupa's Standard Operating ProceduresReport irreparable defects to Home Manager or Property/Maintenance Manager as appropriateManage Care Home elements of any refurbishment programme and capex programme of works ensuring minimal disruption to residents, visitors and staffEnsure that all tools and equipment are maintained and safely secured at all timesAssist with induction of new colleagues with regard to the operation of emergency exits, fire points and evacuation procedures, keeping a record of all instructions given as required by the Home Manager, especially where the use of equipment is involvedAlthough you will be located within a home there may be a requirement to provide maintenance support to a local Care Homes within a reasonable distance (no more than 1hr from normal place of work) as and when required to provide a comprehensive regional maintenance support.Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:A good understanding of building services including, heating, hot and cold-water distribution, ventilation, electrical distribution, and plumbingSound understanding of building fabric and its maintenancePractical experience of planned maintenance systems and record keepingKnowledge of relevant statutory requirements and experience of complianceA full driving licenceA building/electrical/plumbing qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC, ONC, HNC etc) or a minimum of 3 years hand on experience in property maintenance and general repairs where possibleAbility to work as part of a multi-disciplinary teamComputer literateGood Customer service skillsBe flexible to meet changing demands within the care homePractical ability and experience in painting and decoratingBenefitsOur benefits are designed to make health happen for our people.
