Description

Baltic Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with Krystal Technology UK Ltd, a specialist manufacturer of high-purity fused quartz and fused silica components serving the semiconductor, photonics, industrial and scientific sectors, with their search for an experienced Maintenance Manager.

Overall Purpose:

  • To lead the maintenance function and ensure the safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of production equipment, plant, site infrastructure and utilities.
  • The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning and delivering preventative and reactive maintenance, developing the capability of the maintenance team and driving continuous improvement to support operational performance, compliance and business objectives.

Key Duties:

Maintenance planning, delivery and systems:

  • Lead and coordinate day-to-day maintenance activities, setting priorities and allocating work to minimise disruption to production.
  • Own and develop the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programme, alongside effective reactive and corrective maintenance processes.
  • Ensure MaintainX is used consistently to raise, allocate, schedule, monitor and close work orders, with clear priorities, progress updates and accurate completion records.
  • Maintain accurate asset registers, maintenance histories, inspection schedules, equipment condition records and supporting technical documentation within MaintainX and other relevant records.
  • Use MaintainX data to monitor overdue work, repeat faults, completion rates, equipment reliability and maintenance costs, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure effective fault diagnosis, root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions, reducing recurring breakdowns and unplanned downtime.

Leadership and collaboration:

  • Manage, support and develop the maintenance team, including performance management, coaching, competency development and training.
  • Set clear objectives, communicate priorities and ensure suitable coverage and resources are available to meet operational requirements.
  • Be available to provide out-of-hours support for genuine site emergencies and critical equipment failures, including remote advice or attendance on site where reasonably required, in accordance with agreed on-call arrangements.
  • Work closely with Production, Planning, Engineering, Quality and EHS colleagues to plan maintenance interventions and resolve operational issues.
  • Manage specialist contractors and external service providers, ensuring appropriate supervision, standards, performance and value for money.

Safety, compliance and asset reliability:

  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with applicable health, safety, environmental, statutory and company requirements.
  • Promote safe systems of work, appropriate risk assessments, isolation / lock-off arrangements and permit-to-work controls where required.
  • Ensure statutory inspections, servicing and maintenance records are scheduled, completed, retained and available for review.
  • Support the reliability and safe operation of critical production equipment, utilities and environmental control systems.

Continuous improvement, projects and budgets:

  • Develop and report meaningful maintenance performance indicators, including downtime, preventative maintenance compliance, equipment reliability and cost performance.
  • Apply structured continuous improvement methods, including root cause analysis and relevant Lean / TPM principles, to improve plant availability and efficiency.
  • Identify, scope and deliver repair, replacement and improvement projects, working with internal teams and external contractors as appropriate.
  • Plan and control maintenance expenditure, spares, consumables and contractor costs; contribute to capital expenditure proposals and budget planning.
  • Support energy efficiency, environmental performance and the effective implementation of equipment or process changes.

Key Requirements:

  • Substantial practical experience in maintenance/engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience leading and developing a maintenance team and coordinating contractors.
  • Strong understanding of planned preventative maintenance, fault finding, equipment reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements and safe maintenance practices.
  • Good organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise competing operational needs.
  • Confident IT skills and the ability to use a computerised maintenance management system, including MaintainX (or the ability to become proficient quickly).
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline.
  • Experience in a continuous-process or high-temperature manufacturing environment.
