An established UK manufacturing business is looking to appoint an experienced Maintenance & Reliability Manager to strengthen its engineering function and drive improvements in asset performance, equipment reliability and production efficiency.

This is a senior, hands‑on opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working where maintenance, manufacturing, data and continuous improvement come together.

You’ll play a key role in improving the reliability of critical production assets, reducing unplanned downtime and developing a more proactive approach to maintenance across a multi‑site manufacturing environment.

The Role

Working closely with engineering, production and quality teams, you’ll use maintenance data, engineering knowledge and structured problem‑solving techniques to identify recurring failures and deliver sustainable improvements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and delivering a long‑term maintenance and reliability strategy
  • Analysing equipment performance, downtime, failure trends and maintenance data
  • Identifying critical assets and reducing operational risk
  • Leading root cause analysis and failure elimination programmes
  • Developing reliability‑centred maintenance and FMEA‑based approaches
  • Improving planned preventative maintenance and asset care programmes
  • Introducing and developing condition‑based and predictive maintenance techniques
  • Establishing robust maintenance standards and procedures
  • Using CMMS information and KPIs to identify trends and improvement opportunities
  • Working with production teams to improve machine availability and output
  • Supporting Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement activity
  • Coaching and developing maintenance engineers in reliability‑focused practices
  • Providing engineering leadership and management support across multiple manufacturing locations when required
About You

You’ll be an experienced multi‑skilled engineer, maintenance professional or reliability specialist with a strong background in a manufacturing environment.

We’re particularly interested in people with experience of automated or high‑volume manufacturing, although experience from other complex production environments will be considered.
You’ll ideally have:

  • Engineering qualification to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • Strong multi‑skilled engineering experience
  • Previous experience in maintenance, reliability or engineering
  • Experience leading or influencing maintenance teams
  • A strong understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance
  • Experience with RCA, FMEA, RCM or similar reliability methodologies
  • Experience using maintenance systems, CMMS data and engineering KPIs
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management abilities
  • A practical, collaborative and solutions‑focused approach
  • Good organisation and time‑management skills
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites

Lean Six Sigma training or qualification would be advantageous.

Benefits & Package

Alongside a salary of £60,000 depending on experience, this opportunity offers a strong overall package, including:

  • 15% annual bonus linked to performance
  • Car allowance to support travel between manufacturing sites
  • 25 days’ annual leave, plus bank holidays
  • Aegon pension scheme
  • Private medical insurance
  • Death-in-service benefit
  • Training and professional development opportunities
  • Long‑term career progression within an established manufacturing organisation
  • Opportunity to work across multiple manufacturing sites, gaining broad operational and engineering exposure
  • A senior position with genuine scope to influence maintenance strategy, reliability and continuous improvement
  • Opportunity to lead and develop engineering teams while delivering measurable improvements in uptime, efficiency and asset performance
The Opportunity

If you’re an experienced maintenance or reliability professional looking for greater ownership of engineering performance, asset reliability and continuous improvement, this could be an excellent next step.
