Job description

The estate of the Royal Ballet & Opera comprises of three sites: the main site in Covent Garden includes a 2,000+ seated theatre which dates from 1858, and redeveloped stage and newly developed rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, workshops offices and ancillary spaces seating from a large-scale capital project completed in 1999, and a second theatre and refreshed front of house spaces delivered via the Open Project in 2018. The RBO’s Production Workshop and Costume Centre are located in Thurrock, Essex and a 14,000m2 store in Aberdare, Wales.

Together the facilities enable the organisation to deliver a complex and busy production schedule and support the work of 1,000s staff, artists and creative people to stage opera and ballet to exacting standards.

Reporting to the Head of Estates Engineering Services, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing the operational maintenance team to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant operational maintenance of all building services within the Royal Opera House and its subsidiary buildings. You would provide technical support and direction for the maintenance team and external contractors working across all ROH estates in addition to supporting the stage engineering contract for provision of stage support services.

The successful candidate will be qualified in a building services discipline with extensive experience in the management of planned & reactive maintenance. This is a wide-ranging role which will suit professionals with experience across diverse, complex estates who are adept in delivering ‘best in class’ services in similar high public footfall environments.
