Job summary

The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust is seeking a Maintenance Operative for Admiral Jellicoe House in Portsmouth. This permanent role offers full-time (37 hpw) or part-time (22.5 hpw) arrangements with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.

You will provide hands-on maintenance and facilities administration, lead on-site maintenance matters, coordinate reactive works, and support statutory compliance under the direction of the Facilities Manager.

Qualifications

• Experience as a general maintenance/handy-person type role would be beneficial.
• Ability to work largely unsupervised and deliver to high standards.
• Confident in basic repairs and coordinating maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Undertake day-to-day repairs and minor refurbishment works.
• Respond to maintenance requests promptly and carry out works safely.
• Identify defects and escalate significant issues to the Facilities Manager.
• Support room preparation, furniture moves and equipment setup.
• Maintain tools, materials and storage areas in good order.
• Participate in and support a preventative maintenance programme.
• Conduct routine inspections of the building and surroundings.
• Act as on-site lead for outsourced maintenance company.
• Coordinate, prioritise and monitor contractor works.
• Ensure contractors complete works to required standards and timescales.
• Provide site inductions and ensure health & safety compliance.
• Maintain records of works, compliance docs and follow-up actions.
• Escalate contractor performance concerns to the FM.
