Job summary

Involve Recruitment seeks an experienced Maintenance Fitter / Welder based in or around Melton Mowbray to join our team. The role involves working Monday to Friday at a busy manufacturing site in Bedford, carrying out mechanical maintenance, repairs, fault finding, welding and fabrication work.

The successful candidate will travel directly to the Bedford site using their own vehicle, rather than a company van.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Maintenance Fitter or similar.
• Strong mechanical maintenance and repair experience.
• Experience fault finding on industrial machinery.
• MIG and TIG welding experience.
• General fabrication experience.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general mechanical maintenance and repairs
• Diagnose and fault-find problems with factory machinery and equipment
• Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance
• Repair and replace mechanical components as required
• Carry out MIG and TIG welding
• Complete general fabrication and modification work
• Carry out general workshop and factory maintenance
• Use hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment safely and effectively
• Assist with machinery modifications and improvements where required
• Identify worn or damaged components and carry out repairs
• Work independently to resolve day-to-day mechanical issues
• Ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard
• Maintain a professional approach while working at the customer's premises

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Fitter / Welder based in or around the Melton Mowbray area to join our team.

The position involves working Monday to Friday at an established customer's busy manufacturing site in Bedford, carrying out mechanical maintenance, repairs, fault finding, welding and general fabrication work.

The successful candidate will travel directly to the Bedford site using their own vehicle, rather than travelling from our workshop in a company van. The hourly rate of £17.00–£20.00 reflects this arrangement.

This is a long‑term position replacing a member of the team who recently retired after more than 20 years with the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out general mechanical maintenance and repairs
• Diagnose and fault‑find problems with factory machinery and equipment
• Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance
• Repair and replace mechanical components as required
• Carry out MIG and TIG welding
• Complete general fabrication and modification work
• Carry out general workshop and factory maintenance
• Use hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment safely and effectively
• Assist with machinery modifications and improvements where required

• Work independently to resolve day‑to‑day mechanical issues

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience as a Maintenance Fitter, Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Engineer or similar
• Strong mechanical maintenance and repair experience
• Experience fault finding on industrial or manufacturing machinery
• MIG and TIG welding experience
• General fabrication experience
• Good practical and mechanical problem‑solving skills
• Confidence using hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment
• Ability to work independently and use initiative
• Good understanding of health and safety within an industrial environment
• Full UK driving licence
• Access to a reliable vehicle for travelling to the Bedford site
• Ideally based within reasonable travelling distance of Melton Mowbray

Hours & Pay

Monday–Friday: 8:00am–4:30pm

Lunch: 30 minutes unpaid

40 hours per week

£17.00–£20.00 per hour, depending on experience. Temp to perm
