Job summary

Lactalis in Stranraer is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to support production and packaging operations. You will keep equipment running reliably and drive proactive maintenance across the site.

You’ll diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, perform preventative maintenance, and contribute to continuous improvement. A time-served apprenticeship and food-manufacturing experience are required.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering and a relevant qualification.
• Previous experience in food manufacturing.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Experience using computerised maintenance management systems.
• Practical problem-solving approach and the ability to work well within a team.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and respond to breakdowns.
• Investigate recurring issues and implement lasting solutions.
• Support equipment installation, commissioning and improvement projects.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and provide clear shift handovers.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety, food safety and environmental practice.
• Support ISO 14001 commitments and identify opportunities to reduce waste and energy use.

I'm supporting their Stranraer team in recruiting Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineers, and I'm looking forward to finding the right people to join them.

The shift pattern

12-hour shifts: two day shifts, followed by 24 hours off, then two night shifts, followed by four days off.

The role

You'll support production and packing operations, keeping equipment running reliably and helping the team move towards more proactive maintenance.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults.
• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and responding to breakdowns.
• Investigating recurring issues and implementing lasting solutions.
• Supporting equipment installation, commissioning and improvement projects.
• Keeping accurate maintenance records and providing clear shift handovers.
• Maintaining high standards of health and safety, food safety and environmental practice.
• Supporting the site's environmental standards and ISO 14001 commitments, including identifying opportunities to reduce waste and energy use.

About you

You'll bring:

• A time-served electrical or mechanical engineering apprenticeship and a relevant qualification.
• Previous experience in food manufacturing.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
• Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Experience using computerised maintenance management systems.
