Job summary

Gap Technical Ltd is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Fitter near Wrexham to maintain and optimize industrial machinery. The role focuses on reducing downtime through preventative and reactive maintenance and requires strong problem-solving abilities.

You will manage asset records, plan shutdowns with production, and work closely with teams to ensure safe, reliable equipment operation. A long-track record in mechanical maintenance is highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Completed an apprenticeship or equivalent training in a relevant discipline.
  • Holds a recognized qualification in mechanical maintenance, such as City and Guilds, NVQ, or ONC.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience maintaining and repairing manufacturing equipment in a production environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining bearings, mechanical seals, lubrication systems, motors, gearboxes, and heat exchangers.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, procedures, method statements, and risk assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance, repair, and setup of industrial machinery.
  • Drive a reduction in downtime by applying preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Plan maintenance scheduling and plant shutdowns with the production team.

gap technical are proud to be representing this global manufacturing business in their search for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Fitter to work at their facility based near Wrexham


Performance Objectives



  • The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and setup of industrial machinery.

  • You will drive a reduction in downtime while reducing costs incurred through breakdowns, by applying your previous experience in preventative and reactive maintenance.

  • Tube mill experience desirable.

  • Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will support the production team by ensuring that manufacturing plant is kept well maintained and operational.

  • Create an asset register and implement a preventative maintenance program to ensure unplanned downtime is minimized, ensuring that equipment is configured safely and correctly for upcoming production activities. Keep detailed records.

  • Take ownership of all assigned work and use your own initiative and problem-solving skills to bring it to completion within the constraints set out.

  • Work closely with the production team to plan maintenance scheduling and plant shutdowns.

  • Responsible for all critical and non-critical spares, their sourcing, and cataloguing.


Person Specification



  • Completed an apprenticeship or equivalent training in a relevant discipline.

  • Holds a recognized qualification in mechanical maintenance, such as City and Guilds, NVQ, or ONC.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in roles responsible for the maintenance and repair of manufacturing equipment in a production environment.

  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining bearings, mechanical seals, lubrication systems, motors, gearboxes, and heat exchangers.

  • Proficient in modern IT systems, including the use of MS Office. The successful candidate will also have excellent spoken and written communication skills.

  • The ability to read and interpret technical documentation such as engineering drawings, procedures, method statements, and risk assessments.

  • Machine shop experience desirable.
