Job summary

Sheffield Forgemasters is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join the Foundry team at our Sheffield site. The role focuses on preventive and reactive maintenance to keep heavy plant, tooling, and facilities reliable, safe and productive.

You will perform planned and reactive maintenance, document activities in Spidex CMMS, and work with the Maintenance Supervisor to plan and prioritise work, while upholding safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Recognised apprenticeship in multi-skilled trade.
  • Strong electrical/electronic/mechanical diagnostics capability.
  • Experience with CNC controls diagnostics (Siemens, Fanuc).
  • Experience with machine tools, fault diagnostics in heavy manufacturing.
  • Ability to plan maintenance and projects.
  • Good problem solving and communication skills.
  • Positive, calm under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to equipment and facilities breakdowns and corrective actions.
  • Perform planned, preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Complete and maintain records via the Spidex CMMS system.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Supervisor on planning of maintenance work.
  • Assist in achieving operational targets and schedules.
  • Ensure PM activities are carried out per instructions and fix defects.

Job description

At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join our Foundry team.

This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield. Our foundry produces the largest and most technically demanding castings in the World, up to 15 metres long, 8.5 metres in diameter and up to 350 tonnes in weight. We have state of the art in-house inspection facilities and a multi-skilled NDT team, offering all conventional surface and volumetric inspection. We also have coded Welders that also undertake casting repairs, fabrication and cladding services.

Specifically, the Foundry Maintenance Team is responsible for keeping the foundry equipment, tools, and facilities in safe, reliable, and efficient working condition through preventive and reactive maintenance.

As a Maintenance Engineer, you will either individually or in partnership with another team member undertake duties associated with general plant operational efficiency and production availability incorporating facilities issues.

What you’ll be doing
  • Responding to equipment and facilities breakdowns and corrective actions.
  • Perform planned, preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Completing and maintaining accurate, timely documentation and records via the Spidex CMMS system.
  • Working closely with the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure the planning of maintenance work is conducted correctly.
  • Assist in the achievement of operational targets and schedules.
  • Ensure Preventive Maintenance (PM) activities are carried out to specified instructions and schedules with corrective actions implemented to resolve defective issues.
  • Implementing root cause analysis actions.
  • Upholding health, safety, and housekeeping standards in all working areas.
  • Mentor and support team members where required.
About You
  • A recognised apprenticeship (multi-skilled/cross-skilled preferable).
  • Strong Electrical / Electronic / Mechanical diagnostic and development capability.
  • Experience with electronic and CNC controls diagnostics capability and experience (Siemens, Fanuc, etc.)
  • Experience of machine tool processes, fault diagnostics, analysis and countermeasure implementation including multi skilled working practices and capabilities.
  • Experience in heavy manufacturing or hot working environments.
  • Knowledge of machine tool processes, overhead cranes, and DC motor controls.
  • Ability to plan effectively for maintenance and projects.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills supporting continuous improvement.
  • A positive attitude with the ability to stay calm under pressure, and flexible in your approach.

The Working Pattern

Average of 37 hours per week: Mornings – 6am to 1pm Monday to Friday; Afternoons – 1pm to 8pm Monday to Friday; Nights 7.45pm to 6am Monday to Thursday.
