CanDo Laundry Services is looking for a skilled and practical Maintenance Engineer with an electrical bias to support the safe, reliable, and efficient running of our laundry production equipment. This role is suited to someone with strong fault-finding ability, hands-on maintenance experience, and a proactive approach to improving machinery performance and site reliability.

Location(s): Unit 4, Kenfig Industrial Estate, Port Talbot SA13 2PE and Unit 2, Addison Road, Port Talbot, SA12 6HZ

Employment Type: PermanentHours: The main operational hours are approximately 6:00am to 11:00pm. Earlier starts may be required depending on production requirements, breakdowns, planned maintenance, or other business needs.

Salary: £30,000.00 – £32,000.00 per year

Role Purpose

The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of CanDo Laundry Services’ production equipment, including washers, dryers, ironers, and associated plant machinery.

The role will involve carrying out planned preventative maintenance, responding to breakdowns, diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic faults, and supporting continuous improvement across the site. The postholder will play an important part in reducing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and maintaining a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

Planned Maintenance

• Carry out routine inspections, servicing, and maintenance of production machinery and equipment.
• Complete planned preventative maintenance tasks in line with site requirements.
• Identify wear, defects, or potential failures before they lead to breakdowns.
• Support the ongoing reliability and performance of washers, dryers, ironers, and associated equipment.
• Ensure maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Reactive Repairs and Fault Finding

• Respond promptly to machinery breakdowns and equipment faults.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic issues.
• Carry out effective repairs to minimise downtime and disruption to production.
• Escalate more complex or specialist issues where required.
• Liaise with external contractors or suppliers when necessary.

Safety and Compliance

• Follow company health and safety policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
• Ensure all maintenance activity is carried out in line with relevant safety standards and good practice.
• Regularly assess equipment for risks, defects, or unsafe conditions.
• Report hazards, near misses, incidents, and equipment concerns promptly.
• Support a safe working environment for employees, visitors, contractors, and colleagues.

Root Cause Analysis and Continuous Improvement

• Investigate recurring faults to identify underlying causes.
• Recommend and implement practical solutions to reduce repeat breakdowns.
• Contribute to improvements in machinery performance, efficiency, and plant reliability.
• Support operational teams by helping to identify opportunities to improve processes and reduce downtime.
• Take a proactive approach to maintenance rather than relying only on reactive repairs.

Documentation and Record Keeping

• Maintain accurate records of maintenance work carried out.
• Record faults, repairs, parts replaced, and follow‑up actions required.
• Ensure maintenance documentation is completed clearly and promptly.
• Support stock control by reporting when parts, materials, or equipment need to be ordered.
• Keep records available for audit, compliance, and operational review where required.

Operational Support

• Work closely with production and management teams to support daily operational needs.
• Complete maintenance tasks with minimal disruption to production.
• Communicate clearly with colleagues regarding equipment status, downtime, and repair progress.
• Support a small team environment by working independently where required and collaboratively when needed.
• Assist with general site maintenance tasks where appropriate and within competence.

Person Specification

• Proven experience working in a maintenance engineer, or similar hands‑on technical role.
• Strong electrical fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
• Good working knowledge of mechanical and pneumatic systems.
• Experience carrying out planned and reactive maintenance.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a small team.
• Strong awareness of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
• Practical problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach to equipment reliability.
• Good communication skills and the ability to update managers and colleagues clearly.
• Relevant technical qualification, such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent.
• Wiring Regulations certification, such as 17th Edition or equivalent.
• Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, laundry, automotive, or production environment.
• Experience maintaining washers, dryers, ironers, conveyors, or similar production equipment.
• Experience liaising with external contractors or machinery suppliers.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement methods.
• Experience maintaining accurate maintenance logs or using maintenance management systems.
